you can buy internal parts from screwfix, b&q etc

the kit costs about £10-£15 to replace it yourself.

take it to the local plumbing shop should be able to get part/ parts easily.

all the replacement bits for the flushing mechanism are sold pretty cheaply in Wilkinsons. Not sure which bit has broken btw.

It normally comes as a replaceable unit at about £15 -25
Look on the side of the internal flush unit for a name if you can match it you just replace the top piece
Most of these have a 90 degree turn to remove the whole unit from the interior base by twisting it so you can clean out the bottom seal

If you cannot identify it you wil need to remove the cistern from its base pan to reach the underside locking nut.

The other alternative is the traditional bucket of water at intevals
    Remembering
If its brown flush it down, if its yellow let it mellow. This works well for water metered supplies as well

Saying that I got sent two orders of the toilet cisten, they told me to throw the 2nd one away so I have a spare mechanism. As I didn't pay for the 2nd one I must give it away but as you say don't let me touch it

Maybe it's your picture, but that towel rad looks like it's a curved one that's facing the wrong way.
