well MSE says the location

"Mega hotel bargains are available from Lastminute.com* if you use a bit of detective skill. It has a section called ‘top secret hotels’. Here, you don’t know the star level till you’ve paid, and only then are you told the hotel’s name. Yet this means rock-bottom prices, as hotels then needn’t worry it’ll cannibalise their direct trade.

Yet there’s a SNEAKY way to work out what the hotel really is and whether it’s worth it. Simply copy & paste all or part of the hotel description into Google. Often, it just uses the hotels standard description text that also appears on its website.

For example, one 4* Barcelona hotel charging £180 for three nights was listed as a “first class hotel just a step away from Gaudi´s most emblematic buildings”. I chucked that into google, and found its name. Even the cheapest price comparison listing for the same time was £270 – that’s 50% more. "

but I have tried that and its not coming up with hotels that match the facilities showing on the Top Secret one, hope that makes sense

I'd say Crowne Plaza.

We recently stayed at the NEC Crowne Plaza and got a free newspaper.

Perhaps they are not allowed to highlight any features which are specific to only one of the Hotels like 'a pool', otherwise everyone would know which one it was. The idea is that you aren't supposed to be able to work it out.

How many 4*'s are there in Liverpool City Centre, and why it so important you know which one it is?

I know, thing is I have 2 weekends away to sort this month and cant stand bogging hotels so thought i'd try and save some pennies although I can see its not going to work, I've got hives just thinking about it :w00t:

The way I did it before was to narrow it down to all the 4* hotels, including the top secret one, and then put them on a map view. Then you can ask it to rate them as distance from a certain point, and the top secret one will be listed, although it doesn't come up on the map. \the hotels are listed below the map in distance order. You can then narrow down which hotel it is based on distance from whatever location you choose, and you can also look at the other things to confirm it. I've done this a few times and it's worked so far.....

I can't find any babysitting.

Get it booked 4* will be fine.

i know, I know, got to do it again after this for Birmingham :viking:

oh and I certainly do not want babysitting

well unless he's cute and sends me to bed early hehehe

Hey I think it's the Hope Street hotel; it's got babysitting and the same room type + check in/out times. It is also the same distance from the Liver Building, which is how I found it. Have a look....

I'm trying to write a very boring report so this counts as a bit of a break!

thanks for all yrs help, will rep at some point :thumbsup:
going to choose between secret one and the malmaison when i've done my brum search, price there will help the decision :-D

Ah, actually when I looked at the map it didn't seem to change any of the hotels when I changed the distance so please forget that useful piece of advice (although it definitely used to work....). I got the same list as you, but I don't remember what it was listed by.

I just looked that the list of 4* hotels, BUT changed their order from what I think was "our favourites" or something, to "distance from Liver Building." Then they just do it on distance so it can be easy to work out what's what/where. The one above or below the secret one will be the right one, due to location. Then you can match up the rest of the details.

Looks nice to me, seems to be a good price too. Easy walk into town from there. I always check Tripadvisor for reviews, lots of good (unbiased) info on there.

I think the Malmaison one is closer to the Docks though, and it's nice round there, I prefer it to Hope Street area which is near the uni I think.

Just got Birmingham sorted, 2 rooms at the Radisson BLU Hotel, £55 per room

so going to go for the malmaison in Liverpool as a treat, thanks for looking for me

I am all agog ( I wrote agag and that may have been more correct!!:w00t:) to know why you are away in potentially classy hotels once a fortnight. ;-)

Just touching base really, before the big change over occurs and none of us know what the heck we're doing (again). Especially if they put 'edit' in the gift of serial suspended(ers).
Hope you're good Moo. xx

hahahaaaaaa who's been talking, naughty chesso

well what can I say, I'm a much wanted 'laydeee' :-D Well its my birthday on the 25th but I have my friends graduation do to attend that weekend so the weekend before will be a naughty one for my birthday and the second is a girlie one for my birthday, gosh I feel like the queen, so all in all its win win, I get 3 weekends from one birthday, who said I was crap at maths at school ay :-D

I'm all for the changes, anything that makes it feel like the first time again, whoo hoo ;-)
I'm very well thanks and I hope you are too, life's shockingly good at the moment but i'm sure it'll pass

I'd be interested which one it is once you've been, see if any have it right.

But, if you look in the more details section of the page it tells you things such as closest train station. This will help narrow it down further

Location
* Nearest airport: Liverpool
* Nearest train station: James Street
* Nearest bus station: Liverpool Central

So it won't be Hope Street Hotel you are looking closer to the docks, maybe the Hard Days Night etc

Update, couldn't bring myself to do the top secret thingy so went for Hope Street Hotel, reviews were slightly better than the Malmaison thanks again for all yr help

Just in case anyone else comes across this whilst trying to figure out which secret hotel this was/is (I was googling trying to find out the same myself), I've just booked it and it was Hope Street Hotel.
