What laptop is it? It shouldn't be too hard to replace the touchpad.

Have you got lots of programs running when it doesn't work properly?

I have a laser mouse, a logitech v220 I think.. I use it on my leg when sitting at the sofa with my lappy, works just fine

try this

start laptop on battery

shut down

remove battery

wait FIVE mins

plug in on AC power

fully start lappy

shut down

plug in battery

start up

hopefully all is fine

i had an issue with my lappy losing touchpad completly - this routine sorts it

just done this! its not as ad as it was but ive noticed that its all down to my charger. i bought a univiersal charger as mine was dead and used it for the first time lastnight, which was when the touchpad went dodgy. when i used the lappy from just the battery its working fine! i cant understand why

If you have all the discs etc I'd back everything up and reinstall windows after a format.

Just to rule out any software issues:?

thats too much hard work! i would be far too scared of messing the whole computer up. i'll just have to run it off battery and charge it up when im not going to be doing much on it
