Tragic story: boy died after banging head in Somerfield

Really heartbreaking, I would be devastated but cannot believe the family are suing Somerfield!! Well I can, and I know this sounds really harsh but surely some of the blame lies with the kids Mum? He was technically unattended when it happened. Before there is a plague of people calling me heartless I just don't think all the blame should lie with Somerfield, it's not like something dropped off a shelf onto him, if that were the case I would whole heartedly agree with screwing them for every penny!!

I know you cannot watch your kids every second but when in public places I have my 3 year old by my side, holding baby buggy, or holding my hand, and if I do give him freedom to be a bit away from me he does not start messing with stuff (I stop him if he does) because I don' t want him to get injured! (and he would because he is by far the clumsiest child I have ever met!)

Suing for negligence, no less. Awesome.

Mr Blackmore, 39, said: "Now we're lost. We're completely empty. We just can't believe it." ... "Now where's my lawyer?"

I remember when my son was 3 I took him and his wee friend into MacDonalds and he fell downstairs, knocked himself out - was awful - but it was completely my fault as he was/is my responsibility.

I think the parents are so overcome with grief they just need to point the finger of blame at someone.

defo!

So they are suing them for negligence, as they believe the railings shouldn't be there.

But if there are no railings at the front of the store, this can happen:

:?

Sounds like it was an accident to me....can't see how it can be the store's fault at all.

omg the parents are pathetic!

sad story ..but to be honest im surprised more kids arent hurt in supermarkets...when i worked in them a saw loads of tots left in the trolleys while mum was checking out the chickens..completley oblivious to their kids trying to climb out ....this was a tragic accident ,not somerfields fault at all...i dont let me daughter run around asda and swing on things.

Not just me being too sensible then thinking it wasn't all stores fault!

lol no ....checking out chickens or any other foodstuff that takes their attention away from the little person they entered store with...."madam please step away from the chicken and return to your trolley at the other end of the aisle and stop your 3 year old from standing in the trolley seat"........

ohhh how sad poor little boy and family. However it was just a tragic accident, making money from their sons death is NOT on.

probably been spurred on by the press, or some law firm etc,etc but hey ho a free for all is good

reading some of the comments on here about this tragic story fills me with horror. how can people be so insensitive and sick. i think the parents of the boy would much rather have there little lad back than any amount of money.
obviously the people on here who have commented haven't an ounce of compassion in there bodies!
what's wrong with people?!!!!!!!!!!!!:x

people will sue for anything these days

To an extent I agree, but I was on Produce, so got to keep ourselves to ourselves, and I was seeing a lovely girl on fresh prep, so felt I had an obligation to stay

Harry Blackmore was swinging on a small steel rail when he fell in the store in Liverpool.
"We say that the railing should not have been there or should not have been in that state."

NO

The boy should not have been swinging on the railing.

Actually I think thats the last thing they will be doing - their boy died. I think one of the stages of grief is blame. They need to blame someone or accept they are to blame and I think this psychological need is far likely an explanation than money making opportunity. Why not have a go at the lawyers who are no doubt encouraging them to sue.........even if it doesn't go to court the lawyers are probably hoping to get a settlement to avoid bad publicity (even if Somerfield are blameless)

Some of the comments on here are bang out of order considering you are basing your accusations on a small Yahoo news article - which may or may not be true - and you seem to be forgetting a small boy died.........

how on earth is it somerfields fault? should they have staff guarding these rails or something?

very sad nonetheless

i dont agree with children running riot around the shops i always make sure mine are next to me or the younger ones holding my hand

this is a traggic accident where the mother may have been distracted for a moment,i think they are just looking for someone to blame and to vent their anger at

feel so sorry for the little boy and his family x
