can i not do it online?

I'm sure they will let you know when you call them.

You can either go into a Halifax branch and inform the person behind the counter of the recipient's name, sort code and account number and they'll transfer it from your account.

Otherwise do it online at halifax-online.co.uk/_me…OME

Log in, click on your account you want the money to come from, click on "Transfers, Direct Debits, pay bills & standing orders" in the left hand side, click "create new" and just follow the instructions.

if you bank online with halifax anyway you could ?

Are you set up with Halifax online banking? I'm guessing not.

found it, lol, just so you all kno in case you ever need to kno, you take the 5 off! thanks all for trying to help

Alliance & Leicester use a 9-digit account number for internal use (i.e. paying money into your own account or contacting them). It's your standard 8-digit account number preceded by the last digit of the sort code.

i.e my 8-digit account number starts with a 5, and my sort code ends in a 4, but when I need to contact A&L I have to give them my account number as 45*******.

Is the last digit of their sort code the same as the first in their account number? If so, remove that from the account number (making it 8-digits) and that'll sort it

The guy who gave you the account number needs to look inside his cheque book or paying in book as in the front cover it tells you have to alter the 9 digit account number for either bacs payments (transfers) or direct debits. usually you use the first number of the account number ie the 5 to become the last digit of the sort code, but the sort code will differ depending on what type of payment you are trying to do. hope this helps.
