yes this morning it was 70,000 i normally dont sign these but seen this on morning tv and it showed you a dog that had been badly stabbed just pulled my heart strings tbh

It's kind of sad that a petition has to be raised to get Parliament to even discuss this. Anyway, I'm sure this will exceed its goal before the end of the day.

Not signing it as justice is meant to be blind, a persons profession if attacked should not influence a sentence, same applies to animals. We want a equal society not a society where some are more equal then others.

yet the people who go out to protect you, your way of life, and your right to equality aren't deserving of specific protection from those who would seek to harm them specifically because they chose to go out and protect those freedoms?

you sir, need to have a long hard think to yourself

anyone attacking a police officer should start with a considerable minimum prison sentence

First off dont call me sir, secondly have you looked at Lustitia? The reason she is blindfolded, with the sword in one hand and the scales of justice on the other is because, the essence of law, of justice is to be blind to statues, fare in weighing up guilt and swift with retribution.

Where would your buck end as to who gets special treatment? The politician?, the doctor? Lesser sentences for harming the homeless?, you can not value one life more important then another based on profession. Indeed our laws ultimately come from Christian values one of the basics of which is all men are born equal and remain so under the eyes of god.

It should be the same punishment for harming any animal.

if this is the case any dog that bites should be charged with abh

What you need to acknowledge is that the Old Bailey upon which she stands is a building that represents the state. Ergo an attack on it would be viewed as an attack on the state and be treated differently.

In the same vein an attack on an officer would likely be considered an attack on the state and be treated thusly. This petition seems to extend that to police animals which I have no objections to.

You're confusing being blind to the perpetrator with being ignorant of the offence.

But the offence shouldnt differ according to the occupation of the victim, if you punched the old nag who pulls the beer wagon it should be the same sentence as punching a police horse.

We dont want a two tier system where if you mug a politician you get a longer sentence then if you mug a old lady (retired til assistant).

Signed, hope its not another ignored electronic petition in our "democratic" country?

Would you tell us when you dialled 999 and an old lady (retired till assistant) arrived on beer wagon pulled by an old nag?

The police put their lives on the line.

They do a job that I personally wouldn't have the heart/stomach/balls for and I am grateful that they are protecting me and my family.

I believe that assaulting or killing a police officer is worthy of a harsher punishment as whilst our lives might be equal to our loved ones their job is worth more in society.

    I agree with you mate.

This deliberate, sustained and regular attacks on the bulldog 'Baby' was so cruel that the perpetrators should have been locked up for a very long time. No empathy, no compassion and mindless violence, these are people that should not be walking amongst us.

it is clear that you will never be convinced, and to be honest I am highly sceptical of your motives

when the till assistant gets assaulted i completely agree justice should be fair and swift, but you have to understand when the till assistant is assaulted, that till assistant is prevented from processing your shopping and helping pack your bags until he/she recovers. when a police officer is assaulted, they are prevented from saving lives, reducing crime, and catching criminals and allowing freedom and democracy to flourish. Therefore I believe that justice should be fair, swift, and extremely HARSH.

as i say I doubt you will be conviced so ill exercise my right to engage with you no further on the matter

This may be a faulty petition, although I've signed it.

If you kill a policeman it's more than likely murder, and the penalty will be severe.

    Can you murder an animal?

Murder is the unlawful killing of another human being without justification or valid excuse, especially the unlawful killing of another human being

To stand trial for murdering a dog and to receive 20 year minimum sentence seems a bit ridiculous.

    Was this dogslaughter?

By that logic, surely all crimes should be treated as having the same gravity, ie shoplifting would be considered as bad as murder.

There is a movement in the USA to have animals (or specifically, IIRC, monkeys/apes) granted legal rights. There was a very interesting documentary about it on the BBC a couple of months ago, plus another one about a gorilla called Koko that learned sign language. It did make me wonder if in the future humans will look back at our treatment of animals in a similar way to that in which we now look back at slavery.

It's the world gone mad. An animal is not a human. Respect them is all that is needed. Giving them rights is ridiculous. 'I want my chimp to sit in first class, it's his rights' is a step too far.
