If you don't have much free cash right now you could go another weekend when you have more money to spend and make the most of your trip?

Ive tried cancelling but KLM wont allow us and we've paid a chunk of the hotel which we would lose some of.

There is a cheap bakers on Damrak a few doors down from Swissotel. They sell nice sandwiches and filled baps. Bakkerij De Waal no 84 Damrak.

How long are you going for?
There are many reasonably priced steak restaurants on the outskirts of the main square, so look outside of red light district for cheap food. Also if just buying snacks ie: pizza slices, cakes and hot dog/cheese buns don't buy them around the district as they are much more expensive due to the amount of coffee shops in the same area. I guess when people have the munchies they don't care about what they spend!!
Basically the further North of Central Station you are the cheaper/better the food and errr....... smoke will be.

Thanks we're going Friday coming back early monday

You will have a fab time
There is plenty to do and see, without having much money, just make sure you take your walking boots.
If it isn't the touristy thing you are going for I can recommend some nice places to go.

Try and take an afternoon/tea time power nap as the red light district doesn't come alive until after 11pm and you really don't want to miss the atmosphere there.

If you ever decide to go again, I would recommend getting a little studio/apartment. They usually work out a lot cheaper than a hotel room and you can save a lot of money by buying food from the supermarket rather than eating out.

If you do eat some of the lovely local 'mushrooms' Don't eat too many. My friend spent 3 hours sitting in the wardrobe as that's where she felt most comfortable.

The door was open. She's wasn't completly looonified.

Where you going to be staying. Hostels are cheap and not that bad really.
Just make sure you enjoy red light stip and sex show and you'll have a good time

McDonalds & Burger King, I had to go there sometimes after the munchies

Mushrooms are no longer legal in Amsterdam, so there will be no worries there
