Trojan on pc, unable to sign in normal way and with safe mode

My friend's pc has Trojans on it and he's unable to get to sign in onto his computer loading it up normal and loading it through safe mode.

Anyone have any idea's how he can work around this problem?

yep, format the hard drive and re-install windows altogether......it takes a bit of time but at least you know theres nothing untowards on it, and that it would be a fresh installation

save any important stuff on an external drive, then insert xp disc, boot from it and follow the instructions. delete old partions and create new ones if needed

Thanks looks like i'll have to downloaded onto discs as he doesn't have a windows xp disc

Unless you can identify the Trojan and find the remover for it you will have a terrible job getting rid of it as they are often able to keep recreating themselves from the registry. Tere are recovery disks available from some Anti-virus manufacturers that will scan the drive without loading the trojan so therefore making it removable...
Failing this a re-install is the only way to be sure...

word of warning if he hasnt got a genuine key, the old student key seems to be popping up as not genuine on some machines. Mine is ok but my mrs's has popped up even tho they were installed at the same time but hey its nothing a registry edit cant fix

I suggest you get a copy of a Linux Live CD (Ubuntu is probably the best); This will let you back up any of your important data...

Or download windows 7 but thats only valid until August

I have another problem now, i've copies on 6 floppy disks as it's says on the microsoft site, once i've put the 6th disk in it gives me two options either install windows Xp I chose that option and it asks me to put windows xp cd in(but I havn't got one)

The other option is to recover windows xp, I select that and it asks for an admin password likewise I have no clue.

the silly microsoft site says Use floppy discs if you don't have the cd-rom?
