the best available would be to have someone build you one. you would get higher quality parts and better specs..

I am after the very same. I want the best that i can afford.

I have come up with the x3200 acer (slim desktop tower)
or
x2416 packard bell (std size)

I am a bit aprehensive about the slim tower as I'm only used to the big heavy ones. and the first one was faulty, but apparently they are very very good. it has very good specs, 320gb, lots of ram and processors not too bad either, a hd connector for hd monitors as well as normal vga. memory card reader etc etc I read reviews and spoke to pcworld.

The later is 640gb! and a decent brand for £384 without a monitor or £449 with monitor - dixons, currys etc.

I have a packard bell at the moment and it is the best I have ever had, quiet and stress free. I want to upgrade as i'm still using 80gb and only 500mb ram!

don't forget to look out for codes.

I am being wary of home brands like zoostrom and fujit something or other

let me know if you pick up big deals!!! because I am keen to get one too!

Fujitsu a "home brand" ? lol
