    Turkey customs charges?

we've got a family holiday to Turkey later this year and we've been told by a few people that we will have to pay £15 (per person in our family) to Turkish customs when we arrive in Turkey is this true or are they winding us up please? lol

It's been £10 per person for at least the last ten years..
    Maybe it's gone up resently...

Yeah that could be right. When we went about 15 yrs ago, it was £5 per person. And it has to be English notes. They won't accept Scottish notes or probably Irish.

so they're telling truth then? is it true they pocket the money themselves?

Better than £90 for a visa to enter Nigeria.

omg I cant believe we didnt know this lol, what if we hadnt found out and we didnt have any english money on us when we got there?? thanks for letting us know rep'd x

10 pounds sterling they will accept not scottish money as i found out myself

they also wont except any notes with rips or writing on and it has to be the correct money inside each passport so say if you was to put £20 in one coz you havent got the correct change than they will take the £20 and give no change. the last time i went was 3 years ago and it was £10 then maybe best to check with the travel agent on how much it is.

Good thing is it lasts for 3 months.

Kinda sucked though i went twice within 3 months but my second time i was gona leave after the 3rd month was gona end so i had to renew it.

If you travel on a UK passport then it is £10, ]different prices for other nationalities.

The money is usually collected in a booth just before passport control and a stamp is attached to your passport. So you have to queue initially for the visa, then for immigration,(who check you have the stamp), then for your bags......

The charge is per person including children and OAPs.

    You will love Turkey:thumbsup:

yeh we had to pay £10 each and they preferred a £10 note we wanted to pay £20 for 2 however it would have caused alot of bother so we had to route around and try and get 2 x £10 notes

Its very True- a crispy ten pound note,i remember customs being funny about a ten pound note and wouldnt accept it so make sure its nice and crispy!!!
that was 2 years ago not sure if its gone up .
anyone after a holiday to turkey seen on a post earlier some great deals going with thomas cook if you book as a couple or for a family of 4,must do all adults regardless if its children because it works out cheaper, you can get 7 nights in turkey in june/july for under £600 depending on airports your going from-just thought id mention it as its a fabulous deal

yes it was £10 each last year, and has to be a £10 note each

never been to Turkey-or heard of this-what happens if you don't have it because you didn't know - will need to remember this incase i ever go !

We was there about 7 weeks ago and was £10 per person

Yep its a tenner. I went 2 years ago. Perhaps they've been affected by the credit crunch and raised prices by 50% greedy ***@@ers

Yeah it's been a £10 note per person for a long time.

Lol, if they pocketed the money then they would be millionaires.
The money probably goes to the government, or the upkeep of the airport.

makes me laugh how these places charge you for entering, and especially those places which also charge you for leaving. and you cant see no improvements to things like roads etc

£10 per pax in 2009 - It's quite funny, a whole plane load of pax getting the £10 notes out, and book marking it in the passport

Yeah it's been a £10 note per person for a long time.

At least ten years, it was £10 each in year 2000.

Quite an interesting story as to why we have to do it though......

The charge is for an Entry Visa, which is stamped in to your passport.

Of course if Turkey ever becomes an EU Member, this charge will be dropped to EU citizens.

You will be put on the next available flight back to the UK.

I went last year in may and it was £10.

New Zealand or maybe Australia one of them used to charge you to leave, … New Zealand or maybe Australia one of them used to charge you to leave, someone told me when I was travelling to save money for the airport, I googled it and they scrapped it a year or two ago, I'd planned a big argument and everything.

Bali charges for both, when going you have to pay in US$ and on the way out its Rupee

You would just have to do this.

Everyone needs to research about the country they intend to visit, so it's not the customs fault.
It's like going to Iraq and saying "I didn't know there would be a war going on, can i get a refund?"
