Turn off activity tracker on Google

My google account records all my activities on all devices and records them with dates. I have gone into myactivity and selected activity controls option. I see that the slide is set to on but I can't move it to off.

Any way I can turn off the net activity tracking on my google account?

Yes. When i log into myactivity on google, it shows a list of all the websites and searches that I have done with the date that they were carried out. I don't want this intrusion.

Intrusion of what? It's generally quite helpful.

Even scarier check your location history in your Google profile on a PC....you'll find a nice interactive map with a calendar showing where you've been and what time everyday....

You should be able to turn it off in account settings somewhere if you have signed in via the desktop site.

Why is that scary? It's something that you have agreed to in Google's t&c's. I really don't get all the paranoia that people have towards companies like Google and Microsoft regarding activity tracking.

Funny thing is that ALL of this tracking is approved by the user during the setting up of these devices. Yet, so many people moan about it...

Agreed, I sometimes wonder if it is a generational thing? I work in Online / Digital so I see all of the benefits offered to me as a user, however I also understand all of the 'free' services I get from Google need to be paid for somehow.

Maybe we're the only people who have nowt to hide and everyone else is either up to no good or are sexual deviants trying to cover their tracks.

I found this out last week and was shocked it identified every location that i had visited. It records this if you allow location access. I had accepted but it was for recommending local shops etc. I did not know that my movements would be recorded every where i go like big brother! It never made clear this was being recorded and stored on my account.

I have been able to pause that recording but i cant turn the net activity recording off. It even records what movie i have watched. WTF! oO

I think i should have a say as to whether i give permission for this recording. I dont want to be constantly watched. Not to mention if anyone ever hack into my google account, they will see all the sensitive information. Fair enough they would see all the porn sites that i visit but they would see all the banking and financial activities that i have been visiting and wont take them long to hack into my other accounts.

Use a proper password and enable 2 step verification for extra security measures. Realistically if anybody ever manages to 'hack' your Google account it'll likely be that you've given your details away somehow.

You have actually given them permission to do all of the above, you know that box you either tick or click 'agree' to that states all of their terms and conditions? That will be when you agreed to it.

Turn off location services and that'll stop a lot of it.

I think it is google rather than chrome. I have my google account open to get email alerts on my mobile so i cant delete the account from the mobile. I think this means i am always logged into google.

It is your browser activity that you are concerned about. It sounds like your Chrome browser(s) are linked to your Google account. If you sign out of Chrome then it has no account to sync with and your activity won't be updated.

Signing out of the Chrome app won't stop your emails coming through on your Gmail app.

if you use the google rewards app, few days later after your visit, they will ask you
how your visit to Waitrose went etc.. oO

So very true. It wouldnt surprise me that this sort of data gets sold on for advertising purpose.
