TV advice - panasonic

Found 14th Dec 2007
Hi all,

I am torn between the panasonic TH42PX70 and the Z70 model. I have seen the 42px70 for £699 at Dixons.co.uk plus I would save money by using my egg card (approx 8%) but am not sure what warranty is included in this and how much the stand would cost extra. Also are there any other discount codes that I can stack on top?

Alternatively I have seen the Z70 at approx £987:

rgbdirect.co.uk/Pro…86i

I am planning on using it to watch SD freeview TV, play my xbox 360, look at photos (prob via 360) and will prob invest in a PS3 within the next year. I am also considering plugging in my PC.

Is it worth me paying more for the higher model?

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

J

There are a number of factors to consider here.

1) Is money an object?
2) The pz70 uses nearly twice the power of the px70
3) Are you going to be watching more SD than HD material? If SD, get the px70.
4) The PX has won awards, the PZ hasn't
5) You're better off skipping retailers like Dixons, as they are not participating in Panasonic's 5 year warranty scheme - although plenty of retailers are - such as Richer Sounds.

There is another post about this elsewhere if you can find it, but RS are selling the set with pedestal for £749 if you use the advert from What Hi-Fi and Home Cinema.

I can post the photo of the magazine advert in a bit if you're interested. I don't think the PZ is worth the extra money.

Head over to avforums if you need more info on these sets. I have the PX70, and find it amazing.

Hi

I have the px70 and think it is a great TV for both HD and standard, I got mine 4 weeks after it came out. I got mine through John Lewis as they will price match any other retailer who has a shop front location and also will give you a free 5 year warranty on top of that which is worth over £300 in itself. Use Kelkoo, pricegrabber and dealtime to find the cheapest deal then give them a call!

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Adam

But if the pz70 is only 200 pounds more and still includes the 5 year warranty is it worth the long term investment (I expect to have the TV for approx 10 years!), I like looking at photos on screen and want to use my PC with it, so figured the extra resolution would help.

The issue with JL Pricematching is that the undersales team are very slow at issuing a PM. The shop front stores that are PM'd must also have the item in stock and have shelf edge price ticket. This all creates a bit of a nightmare in getting these deals with JL. There's a massive thread over on avforums about the problems people have had.

The best deal in a shop I've found, where the retailer is participating in Panasonic's Extended Warranty (which is every bit as good as JL's) is at Richer Sounds, where the set with the pedestal is the price in the above advert.

Details on Panasonic's offer which expires on 24/12/07 can be found ]here.

Yeah, that's why I said about the financial aspect of your consideration.

If you reckon that 1080p is more important than 720p for viewing photos etc and the money is not that significant a factor, get the PZ.

You may wanna look at the power consumption too if you're worried about electricity bills, as the PZ is around 450W, whereas the PX is only 250W.

Like I said, there's a lot more debate on this topic over on avforums, where you will get some more informed opinion.

Sorry, forgot to add:

The Panasonic Warranty is only available through pariticpating retailers - of which you can check through the link provided in my previous post, or just call the retailer. You're supposed to go into shop and view a demo of the sets in action to qualify for the warranty deal, but I understand that some retailers have bent the rules on this one...

Any one know when the £749 deal expires at Richer sounds?

The deal was advertised in the December issue of What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision - therefore you shouldn't have any problem gettin them to honour the deal this month...

Just print off the picture in my post above, many others have in another thread on here.

CAN ANYONE GET THIS STORE LOCATOR TO WORK?

panasonic.co.uk/cus…asp

Yeah, you just type in your postcode and search...if the results don't come up immediately, click the icon that appears next to the search button.

It's alright, you can thank me later.:whistling:

ignore that I was pressing the wrong search button....doh!

Anyone know if these prices are likely to come down in the New Year sales? I won't be able to sleep at night if I know I do not get the best possible bargain.......

Prices of lcds and plasmas move all the time - the longer you wait, then newer technology comes out and forces the cost of older models down.

I could be wrong, but I doubt these prices will move significantly.

Bottom line is this: The Panasonic 5 Yr Warranty Offer expires 24 Dec.

Indeed.

Forgot to add earlier, the price in Dixons online does not include the pedestal stand - which retails at around 100 quid.

Ok all, I am still torn between the two TV's - money is not such an issue now as am being given some from my olds at xmas. The px is still available at £749 from richer sounds inc 5 year warranty with delivery at an extra cost. as I am also considering using this for my PC - I reckon the PZ might be the better long term investment. Where is the best place to get this online or offline sub £1000.

Does anyone know which online retailers also do the 5 year guarantee offer?
