Twitch/Firefox Memory issue

Found 16th Feb
I lurk on Twitch, a LOT, and have recently noticed a serious thing that's stopping me from lurking on Twitch!

The pics will explain it better than words.

3rd gen i3 4gb ram laptop with firefox (for reference)

It goes up by 4mb every few seconds...

I can manually stop the process which makes everything all right again, however, If I forget to stop it, the memory usage gets to 90 percent and the harddrive kicks in and the computer becomes unusable

This only ever happens whilst using Twitch.

What is happening?

Can some of you lovely techinical peeps help me out?

Are you running the new firefox released recently? It's got a completely new engine. Just heard about it on a tech podcast.
yes, using 58.0.2
That's one hell of a memory leak. Sounds like it's buffering to memory instead of storage.
It only started happening after the most recent firefox update.

I only have 4gb of ram and that was plenty before - it's still plenty for everything else, just not twitch

Planned obsolescence?

*covers head in tinfoil* lol
Can you try Firefox in safemode (without add-ons) to see if it's any different?

I'd download the portable version and try twitch on it, could be you need to refresh your install

portableapps.com/app…ble

type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.

At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox"

Just tried that, and everything took twice as long to load, and I got constant buffering.

Impossible to even watch a stream, nevermind anything else!

I'm starting to think this is Twitch punishing peeps for using adblock

Gonna experiment over the next few days to see if adblock has an affect.
