Type B USB to Ethernet Cable

Banned
Do these exist?

Mate just got a 360 and wants to hook it up to XBL, but his router only has a Type B USB on it....

Had a look but couldnt find one...needs about 10 metre length

Personally think easiest for him to do is get a normal Ethernet lead and stick it in the back of his PC

The USB is for connecting directly to a PC or a printer isn't it? Ideally he should be getting a router with more ports

Would this help? You might need another cable though to bridge between the adapter and PC

a router with USB?
its probs just a virgin cable modem that you cannot use both connections off at the same time.

he needs a 4 port ethernet router and some LAN cable
a USB cable over 5 metres would need to have an active repeater on it too.

I am struggling to find one that is Type B to Ethernet but that adapter would be spot on if it were Type B

it cant be done
he needs a router

if its just a virgin cable modem it WON'T let you use USB and ethernet at the same time.
I worked in an independant PC shop for 4 years and I been working with PCs and networking for over 10.

he needs a router.
simple

Tbh I didnt think it would either...to stick a Type B converter to Type A female and then stick a type A male to Ethernet lead in just seems the wrong way about it..not sure if it will work or not...in principle it should do but principle isnt always right ...certainly not the way I would do it anyway...

I think the easiest way to do this is to just stick an Ethernet into the back of the PC and to the 360 and create a bridge which I know for a fact will work

btw Sorry...I meant Modem not router

Just buy an ethernet hub. Cost less than £10.

As for using usb to ethernet/parallel/serial the idea always seems good but getting the software to run is a whole different matter.

does his PC have 2 ethernet ports?

most dont.

unless there has/will be a pci card fitted.

easiest way:

modem to 4 port wired router, which are pretty cheap, cheaper than buying tons of adapters which will just decrease the signal and not give him the desired gameplay speed.

In principle it most certainly not work, you can't just change between different standards through adapters like that.

John

As said above, it can't be done. They are completely different technologies. It's like putting a floppy into a CD drive, even if you can get it to fit properly it still won't be the same thing.

Principle as the theory is it would work when I know it doesnt as I have already said....and I have already said I dont think it should be done that way and isnt the way I would do it

jeez

Not quite you can get proper adaptors for sending USB signals over … Not quite you can get proper adaptors for sending USB signals over ethernet, they also make them for carrying VGA signals over ethernet. But in this case it on't work anyways as the USB port is for connecting to a PC and will require drivers.

Those types of devices aren't really relevent here as they're simply allowing extension over an ethernet cable.

Did I really need to put "for all intents and purposes in this context"? I hoped not but presumably so.
