    Typical shop staff

Went in to W H Smiths and saw a PS2 Eyetoy Play 3(I think) with the camera new for £1 and the guy refused to sell it to me claiming "oh thats not for sale anymore" and putting it under the counter.

I knew what he really meant was he wanted it for himself to sell for profit but hey couldnt prove it.

Yep in Chester, the entertainment part downstairs, the guy kept on messing up his speech and making excuses.

I would of kicked off but im moving in 2 weeks so didnt want the hassle of either keeping it, or selling it for profit and listing it, getting offers etc.

Stop being a walkover and grow a set.

    Love,

Actually I wasnt really bothered wasnt going to kick up a fuss for an item I didnt really want for any reason but it was a bargain.

Sorry to say, but the bottom line in circumstances like this, is that they do not HAVE to sell it to you at all - for any price. That said, i had a similar issue in Smiths earlier in the year. I took an item which was in the clearance bin to the till to buy it. It was marked up at 1.00. but came up on the till as 10p, and i was told that they would have to sell it for the marked price. I'm afraid Smiths do not seem to be too hot on goodwill sales:x

You may not have been bothered about wanting it or not, but it's instances like such that the matter of principle steps in.

    lol..

I know that personally its like how you can haggle to get the store to drop prices as money is a token of payment.

But hey stores wont let you know that.

I kind of feel that it's their loss. If they don't offer goodwill - i can shop elsewhere:)

i would have done the same as u ryouga..... then later on u kick urself....

    Next time,with a similar item,go to a till with a female cashier on,sexist I know,unless its of course me.

it's a lame state of affairs, but a store does reserve the right to withdraw a product from sale for 24 hours, then put it back out at a different price...although with something like that, he probably was gonna hold it for himself

i dont think y'all right i worked for tesco in customer service for 8 yrs and what we were told as soon as customer puts item in trolley thats as good as paying for it. If shelf edge lable says 1.00 and it scans at 1.49 the customer has to have it 1.00 unless we remove all the others from sale for 48 hrs or sumthin like that

He probably reads your bleating woe is me posts on here and thought he'd give you something else to write about. :-D

Ooh, I like your sparkly new avatar Magicbeans - very stylish!! x

Perks of the job - tho should have asked to speak to manager

Had this problem loads myself, the sale of goods act was changed some years back and they can refuse to sell it now, they used to have to honour the ticket price but people were abusing it (what, do you believe that!), so having eagle eyes is not always enough to bag a bargain although many big chain stores will honour it.

should of got the manager and told him that the person who served you said you couldnt have the item beacuse he wanted it for himself, even if you didnt get the item, he might of got a warning lol

This chap was obviously being a little tinker. Even if you didnt want it, its the principle of deception. Id rather amicably win and spend a pound than lose and not spend a penny!!

I whole heartedly agree, if it was a complete and utter waste I would have still bought it just to have the argument with that guy for being (replace with any of the banned words on this site :)).
if I see a bargain in a shop I buy it, if they say the price has changed I always ask to see the screen and will kick up merry hell until I get my own way, maybe that means I am spoiled, but I have worked in retail myself many times and know what kind of dirty tricks they can play, you just have to play harder if you want the prize at the end of the day.
