    Tyre Size Question

hi , I've a question for the mechanics out there.

I've a zafira with steel wheels (tyre size 205/55/R16) with nearly new tyres. I've spotted a set of vectra alloys for sale with old tyres fitted which need replaced (tyre size 215/55/R16). If I bought the alloys, could I fit my zafira tyres on the vectra alloys?

The wheels should work as they are Vauxhall 5 stud, but I'm not sure about the tyres.

    Any help appreciated.

    Yes.

Edit : Providing the Vectra is 02 plate onwards. Centre bore is smaller on earlier cars. Just check with the seller that they have a 65mm bore.

sorry I should have said , the vectra alloys are 05, the zafira is 08. The wheels fit OK I am 100% positive, but are you sure I can fit 205/55/R16 tryes to the vectra alloys which originally had 215/55/R16. Is the width of these tyres not different?

the width is different but it's not an issue however when replacing tyres if you fit 215/55/16 make sure they don't rub on your car!!

    It's only 1cm difference, .that's 5mm each side lol.

The actual change in size is 11mm overall or 1.74% which is well within the recommended limits which are 2.5% so they will be fine.

    215-205=11? LOL

Btw, I know what you did there but re-read the OP to see your mistake

Just to be completely above board, I think that you should also inform your insurance company in case they treat this as a modification from your currently insured specifications (maybe ask them before going ahead if it affects your premium and if so by how much). Insurance companies should always be informed of any potentially relevant change in your car or circumstances etc, but many people don't (either intentionally or unintentionally).

funny guy,the dimensions i quoted are the overall diameter change which is the important thing here ,obviously the tyre will fit but will it clear the bodywork.

this tyre change calculator will probably explain it better. etyres.co.uk/tyr…htm
