U2 suck and have sucked for about 20 years

Throughout the 80s they were very credible and probably the best band in the world, but 'suck-cracks' started to appear with Zoo and it's been monumentally sucky ever since. The current single rates very highly on the suckability scale suggesting the suckfest is due to continue for the forseeable future. Anyone agree/disagree?

I agree U2 most overated band in the world. It's beyond me how they get more air time than proper musicians like blake lace

I don't think he does himself any favours wearing sunglasses all the time too. As Larry David said, "only two types of people wear sunglasses indoors, blind people and a$$holes!"

I always thought they were carp,Bono is so up his own ass

Still one of the worlds biggest acts whenever they tour tbh. Achtung Baby was obvo their peak record - back in about 90/91.

LoL Whats with all the hate?

How many other bands are as successful after 28 years?? Its a matter of taste isn't it, I haven't heard the new album yet so can't really comment.

U2 have always had a knack of reinventing themselves every album from the unforgetable fire onwards has been a new fork in the road musically, many bands have used influence from their style especially Edges guitar work, love or hate them they are extremely good at what they do. Their las 2 albums have gone multi-platinum both sides of the Atlantic 20 years on.... yeah they must suck :?

As far as Bono goes, yeah he wears sunglasses some say its pretensious, but isn't that what a true showman is all about? How can you knock a guy who for a change with money and influence can actually have a positive impact in politics and influence the half wits in very high political postions to actually make a change to serious international issues, contribute to charity and still be an overall nice guy... he doesn't take drugs, never been to prison, doesn't beat the **** outta someone who gets in his way at the airport... Hell I can think of far worse rolemodels for todays generation!

Or is it just a case of the typical British attitude of lets hate on someone who is rich and succesful just because we're jealous..

loved U2 when they did that red rock gig. all went downhill when Bono started wearing those ridiculous shades!!!

Not so much hate, more disapointment that such a great band went so namby pamby.
I loved U2 in the 80s and went to see them a couple of times, but the last 20 years has been a succession of really 'nothing' songs that only sell based on decent production and marketing.

It's all very well saying a band must be popular because 10 million+/- people bought the album, but what about the 6.7 billion that didn't? :whistling:

That could possibly be the shoddiest reasoning in the world ever, would you put the same analogy on Elvis, The Beatles, The Stones?

In the 80s U2 graduated from Irish Punk to Rock to Stadium Rock, In the 90's they chose a different path and added new technology adding an electronic feel, initially album sales were pretty poor, but thats because a lot of the 80s followers couldn't hack the change... but all was not lost they generated new fans from a younger generation quite a feat for a band now already been around for 10 years, then 2000 came and they went back to roots but kept some of the better bits from the 90s and reintroduced 80s tones thus keeping their new fans and converting back some of the older 80s followers.... So 20 years on all is well album and concert sales are through the roof, some of the most innovative and exciting tours ever are taken across the globe, now we draw to the close of this 10years they change path again with 'No Line on the Horizon' which has some really different paths in it, some tracks are incredibly familair in their mirrored styles from 'October' and 'War' and some are really different, even too different for some of the more diehard fans... but you watch 30 years on they will still be headlining award ceremonies performing mind blowing tours and generate a new lease of fans.

And by then bonio's hat will have enough air miles for a round the world trip :-D

Now Now Play Nice, I wouldn't go as far as to say Fan Boy, but I do like em. I don't mind people having an opinion and not liking stuff but to mindlessly hate on something without reasoning just gets me goat and I will generally rise to it :-D

It's not mindless and reasons have been given. They had it, they lost it. They should retire, they won't. The true test of a good artiste is knowing when to be asassinated / burn in a plane crash / take an OD / blow your brains out!

I'm not keen on the new album but I always preffered a frontman with something intelligent to say for himself...

I'd be interested to know who you rate at the moment though? It'll either be something deliberately obscure or azid jazz...

Don't rate much at the mo. But I'm probably too old to get it! ;-) The Ting Tings are about the only recent band I quite like.

Not quite sure what acid jazz is, but jazz is definately without question the worst genre of music ever!

Christ... at last, someone with a sense of humour! :-D

I've lost faith in music at the moment... too much 'pete doherty skiffle' doing the rounds for me... MGMT are probably the only recent band I can muster any interest for.
