Did they include any pictures to prove that you left? or what they're basing their ticket on?
Also it's not a fine, it's an excess parking charge. They still have to prove their argument, so ask for proof as you 'can't recall leaving the site'. Don't admit anything. There's lots of articles on the web about how to go about it, just don't believe the obvious spurious claims people make - look for reputable advice such as MSE .

there is just a picture of my car in a car space ...ticket just says vehicle owner/driver left site even thou I was looking at shops on the retail park....then went too asda across the road to pick up some bits which was for about 20minutes
If you have receipts for the stores that were on site I would argue you were using the car park as intended, it seems feasible you could have crossed the road for a very reasonable reason, such as to use the bathrooms in the super market across the road - I live near a similar retail park though with less draconian fining system, many individual stores surrounding a big car park with a super market across the road with it's own car park. If you were only gone 20 minutes my theory is you weren't planning to actually shop there but only went in for the bathroom which wouldn't have been available in smaller stores on the retail park - at least that's how the layout is near myself, but I'm totally guessing.

to be honest I didn't buy anything for the shops in the retail park window shopping only ,yes did use toilet in asda ,still don't no what to do a 100fine for a free car park is absurd
rather than getting advice here it may be more prudent and best to go-to to a forum that specialises in this issue

Hence, you went off-site.

Case closed.

It doesn't matter to them, you still went off site using other facilities against the car park terms. Doubt they will drop any charges.

Put the question on pepipoo those guys will be the best ones to help. I suspect it will be down to them proving you went off site and how that would play outin court.

The courts would most likely throw this one out unless something has changed recently as the charge fine cost etc what u want to call it should be in propionate to the usual charge so if it's free then seems excessive.

Just don't admit going of site, certainly don't mention Asda in any correspondence and just say you spent a long time at the retail park the car park you were in is designed for. Yes it isn't the truth, but a £100 fine is far from fair.

Better to not respond than lie like that they have obviously been nosing this person and followed her on the camera's most probably some perverts how else would they see a person going from shop to shop to across a car park and back to the car. If u keep ignoring the letters they may stop sending them out or send the letters unopened back with a not known at this address as they have to have the correct person and car to legal take u too court and it would be the small claims court not a proper one unless it was more serious or it was from the council.
Go into one of the stores at the shopping center ideally a high traffic store and one selling cheap goods. Tell the staff you bought something from there but lost the receipt and you got the parking notice.
They (or the manager) should be able to find you a receipt for the time hours you were logged as parked.
Should be more then enough to get it thrown out.
Don't do anything!!, as soon as you acknowledge them they know they have got you pleading on your knees and will threaten you for the rest of your life!..

Just ignore any correspondence you'll get a few scary £600+ bills + balif letters letters but they do eventually go away.

I've had two retail park letters for 90 minute stays but both have gone away took about 2 years of 3 scary letters a year.

They do eventually go away
Btw, no balifs will turn up lol, there's no CCJ's involved.

Ignore, ignore, ignore is key...I'm not even going to wish you luck because you don't need it, they are powerless and certainly not going to spend any money to take you to court, lol

You haven’t realised the rules have changed, it’s now not recommended to do what you suggest as it can cause you more issues.

Yes it was a while ago now. 5 years plus.

So the options now are? Pay it, or don't pay it.

I know what I would be doing, guess it's down to the Op how he feels.

Both mine where genuine cases, 1 one was I bought a tv from currys the went to pizza hut on the same park. So not paying!.

1 was a tesco and toys r us Christmas shopping 4 children 90 minutes, yeah right!..not paying! And didn't!!..

I've since learned you have to tell the store manager if your going to be longer? Would of been nice for them to ask my reg as I took over an hour buying a tv!! Never said anything, thieves

Then you should pay the fine. There will be signs up all over the car park stating that it’s for customer parking only. If you left the site then you are using it for another person than to be a customer of those stores for the time you left the site. Bang to rights.

This is just not true, the liability of the ticket lies with the registered keeper of the car and their address should be current as per the DVLA. Providing the carpark has met the POFA conditions they can peruse the keeper regardless of who the driver was.

please go to an actual PCN forums for this, it’s a complex issue and the amount of misinformation people sprout on these posts it’s just not worth taking the chances here.

Well bang to rights aren't you still a customer as long as u have shopped been to them stores. I always shop in the car park then go else where surely u don't stop being a customer just because u left the store there's nothing on the sign to say for customers only when they shop here and no where else does or does it.
The key word in the sign is ONLY. Which means you cannot go and be a customer of another store outside the business park.

Realistically you broke the rules so you should pay the fine, unless you are willing to lie and say you didn't go to Asda. If you are willing to lie, then do that because they'll have no way of knowing one way or another. If not, then pay the fine.
I often park in car parks "For Customers Only" then go off site and there are a number of reason for leaving ie going to ATM, dropping/collecting dry cleaning, post office etc or wanting to buy some none food shopping before buying fresh or frozen foods most places have a time lime limit and as long as I return and shop the store I don't see any problem if you spent the time limit in the stores car park or just part of it as long as you do go into the store before leaving.

That car park has cctv, you've been unlucky as the operator happened to clock you driving in, getting out of your vehicle and exiting the area, probably followed you all the way.

I bet people do it all the time, I have, just unlucky this time as you got caught using the car park but not as a customer as intended and I'm sure the signage would indicate that it's for customers only, and misuse will result in a fine.

Obviously I wouldn't admit to going off site for a few minutes anyway ...and if u did it shouldn't be an issue as it could have been to get cash put or go toilet etc ...is it best to ignore everything from them or appeal to the letter online but then I'm making contact with them ???

To summarise then ;

You never bought anything from the site.

You left the site for 20 minutes.

You purchased items from Asda (off site).

,,,,,......
Do the T&Cs state that you cannot walk off site?
I would think that as long as you were a customer on site at some point during your stay then you would be in the clear.
Contrary to popular belief, It isn't a "fine", they don't have the power to fine you, Only Council/Police wardens have the power to fine you for parking offences.

It's a speculative invoice, they could potentially take you to a small claims court but it's extremely rare they do. I've ignored several and they eventually gave up. Others haven't been as lucky so it's a gamble.

^^^this^^^

yes you will still probably be fined but that £100 is extortion
Don’t pay ,I’ve had two off Mc ds and one of a shopping centre , blanked every letter , balifs are coming then I was going court bla bla and nothing ever come of it

Just ride it out
The reason people say ignore them
This is the key part , once you make any contact or response they will go for you . They want there scary letter to make people pay quick with no effort , think about it they send 1000s out a week so they going to take all them to court? Doubt it

Avoid blank sit back

OK I think I'll ignore all letters I want online too see the pics of the my car ...one pic had the pcn notice on the windscreen on the drivers side three quarters up the window which is funny because it wasn't there on the way home as I used my wipers then I saw something fly off the car so they must have moved the notice down after they had taken the picture ....then I got this fine a few days ago read it yesterday when back from holiday
My 2c - it is clearly signposted that the car park is only for those stores and that you will be 'fined' if you go elsewhere. It's pain - if we want to visit Pets @ Home, B&Q and Asda you need to move the car twice, 100 yards each time. Is it legally enforceable? - depends if you want the hassle of ignoring the threatening letters. I know a couple of people that ignored the signs and paid up.

might leave it for a while see what happens over the next 3 months hopefully wont get much more from them surely free car parks can fine you
