I'd avoid the number 27 bus if possible.

Oh THE Mecca.

Thought you meant the bingo hall.

No, idea to be honest, but it must be a trip of a lifetime though.

Rent your self a few of these bad boys - 100 carrots, few bottles of water and they'll soon get you to your destination.
(Just banter)
Op make sure to stay away from dodgy travel agents, make sure to get a certified travel agent.

SD over her would be fine...but when 2 asian blokes have died (fair play due to their own stupidity)...mentioning they should stick to driving rickshaws is completely derogatory of all asians living here.

anyways u can post as many rickshaws here as u like; just make sure they are legit

Have to say this looks amazing

BUT, you could save money and blindfold your parents and drive them around the M25 three times then take them to Lakeside when the January sales start and pretend its Mecca, because that's what the picture reminds me of!;)
We're planning umrah in Feb and have decided to book the flights and arrange our own hotel etc when we get there. If possible it sounds like the best thing as you can travel at your own pace and spend as many days in Mecca and Medina as you wish to, rather than having to follow the group leaders around

Imagine the queue for the loo.
My dad worked abroad in Saudi for a year, in Riyadh. It was a wonderful experience and a bit of a culture shock but if you embrace it you will have an amazing time - the souks are really amazing. I do remember having to wear Abayahs whenever we went out of the compound and being shouted at by the 'Religious Police' (people in special uniforms) for not wearing the head covering (which was not actually compulsory but being very white, blonde haired and 13 years old I attracted quite a bit of attention, in some of the places we went a lot of people hadn't seen blonde hair before so I respected the culture and bought one to wear when needed). It was horrifically hot on a few of the times we went (in the year we flew there about 4 times - Dad's company paid X) ) and wearing the black abayahs made you even hotter (a tip: spend the extra and buy a silk one not man-made fibres!).
Dad had an offer of 30 camels for my hand in marriage from one guy (Imran) who called me 'Cleopatra' X) Dad made him keep his distance after that lol
Isn't it encouraged that muslims visit Mecca at least once in their lifetime (I'm sure that's what my friend said)? It would certainly be an experience and if you're able to take your parents then why not do it whilst they're mobile enough to go! Do it is my recommendation.

It's not possible to do that as Saudi require you to book return flights and hotels in advance before issuing visa.

That's beautiful. And I really hope that expansion happens.
