Ive just been told and about to go and get my mail,
if you havent had any mail for a while you can go and collect it from your local sorting office, you will need photo ID, proof of address for each person who lives at your house.
they are doing this in my local which is ABERAMAN which covers the CYNON VALLEY area only. I have rung them to confirm and they said most sorting offices are now doing this as there is so much mail waiting to go out and no way of delivering it.

hope this helps guys i know its helped me loads, I will have i hope everything thats been ordered and shipped in the last 3 weeks!
Merry Christmas guys!!

OP is not asking you to become the local postie but if you are waiting on pressies or important letters then there is an option there for you!

I just phoned the sorting office in Merthyr Tydfil and they are letting people collect mail there too. I have 3 big presents for my son waiting in my sorting office, god i hope they are in the pile he said he had for me lol

I phoned my local sorting office in Oldbury, West Mids yesterday and they said we could collect. I didn't think to mention it on here. I did have some post this morning but apparently the back log is so bad, my poor postman looked really upset!! (He's a nice one, the other's are just *******!)

Is this only for people without mail altogether? I have had mail sent to me 2 weeks ago and nothing has arrived yet stuff sent a week or less ago arrived this week. I am receiving post but very little of it. Will call PO tomorrow to see if they have a backlog there.

It also begs the question if I can get there to pick them up why can't they get to me to deliver it? Its useful to know if you do have any packages laying around there though.

Health and Safety!

You can't have those poor post men on a really good wage bruising their bums, when they're doing such a highly skilled and demanding job. We need to preserve them, whilst the rest of us minions go about as best as normal

where i am the main roads are passable but the side road are a no go, my street it 2 foot of packed solid ice now, we've had huge 4 x 4 truck slide down it, so i dont blame our postie for not delivering

Been doing this for three weeks.
The postman was having to drag his sack through the snow.
They have individual boxes for us.
Good service, I think.

good option for me as i pass it most days.
i remember watching a programme where an ex marine tried to do a posties route in the target time and he missed the last 3 houses, said that for an average fit person to reach the target times would require them to jog the entire route, random I know but just thought I'd share

is the sorting office the same place you go to when you're not in and you need to sign for stuff or go pick it up cos it was too big for the letterbox?

If it is then mine is quite close to work I might pop in. Would feel like a bit of an idiot turning up though as I would have thought they'd ask wheres your card with reference number...erm I dont have one you got any post for me lol.

cool! Ive got a bluray from amazon that didnt come through which was surprising hopefully it may be there then!

Our postman has made it to our office most days, but myself and two colleagues are missing loads of items that were dispatched 2 weeks ago.

If collection from the office is possible I'd be happy to go, my fear is they will not be able to find them amongst the mountains of undelivered mail.

I can wait just for the comedy value of watching the postie skidding down the street.

phoned our sorting office as they open until 8pm, got a rude loud woman who said ring back tomorrow (when the queues are out the door) and see if i can pick up parcels - the postman wont come near our house coz of snow

hope you guys manage to get your parcels!

Should of expected a reply like that!

I would love a job if only I found one, I cant just walk into a building and start working there like on How Not To Live Your Life.

Only current jobs around here right now are teaching jobs strangely, and cleaning jobs(which they say experience essential)

Getting really bored signing on and going nowhere.

They changed the HB system a few years ago to that cheques only now go to LL if people are over 8 weeks in arrears, even then there is problems getting council to pay, or if person is vulnerable etc.

I normally recieve the cheque, pay it into my Halifax account(branch is a few minutes walk away) then send faster payment so LL gets it straight away.they normally give me 3 or 4 days after just in case but that doesnt create a very good impression!
