Underrated/unappreciated movies.

My 2...The Specialist and Miami Vice. Both much misunderstood, highly engaging, slow burning dramas. Mark my words, both these films will be re-evaluated in the not too distant future. Dare I call the Noir.

Do you agree and/or have others?

The specialist was alright because of the year it was released in but Miami Vice was just wrong on so many levels. Possibly Colin Farrel wasn't the best choice.

I actually believe both are great watched today, neither have dated and (for me) actually gotten better as time has passed. As for Colin Farrel, I'm not a big fan of his but on this occasion can't imagine anybody - besides an unknown - nailing it better.

Star Wars

Overrated for sure - massively.
The best example of this I can remember was when the wife bought a VHS video of "The Full Monty" from Woolworths and came home with an additional video they were giving away for an additional £1 - "Brassed Off" - somehting I had never heard of. However, Brassed Off was by far the better movie and I think over the years has got the acclaim it was due.

Generally however I find the opposite - most movies are overrated!! This years example - La La Land - absolute rubbish!

Love After Hours - must have watched it twenty times.
Neither of these are underrated, as they both did quite well critically but:

The Spanish 2007 film Ttimecrimes is an underappreciated gem if I've ever seen one. It's getting Hollywood remake, so expect them to ruin it. Although, I think it's being handled by Netflix so it'll maybe come through half decently...

The British film Skeletons is great too. Small independent film, it doesn't get a run on TV very often as the prints were lost/destroyed apparently. The DVD transfer looks like it came from a VHS cassette. it's a shame really because I think there's a lot of potential for a series in it. The writer/director hasn't done anything since, so it can't have done well commercially. If you like the BBC 4 series 'The Detectorists' then it's like that but with ghost hunters. Like a very British version of Ghostbusters. Well worth hunting down.

Agree 'Brassed off' really good
if it floats your boat you can view them and Billy Elliot as a trilogy
Spice World the Movie is very underappreciated. Consider what they went through - the trauma of having Meat Loaf as your bus driver, avoiding death, arrests - all right before just one show. It's just a rollercoaster of emotion.
Battlefield Earth, Travolta's best performance imho.

Trollhunter - very funny (in a deadpan kind of way) Norwegian horror comedy.

Black Sheep - another silly horror comedy, this time featuring zombie sheep

You better be kidding regarding every movie you deem as overrated barring Avatar which is not only overrated but actual toss.

Speaking of No Clue, "Without a clue" was a very good film and quite underrated. Hilarious.
