tescos asda et al never put these notices by the items - always on the furthest wall in the customer services dept - i complained to tesco few months ago over a recall for baby milk - would love to see them get in trouble for not displaying them

I know ours is the same, they have a couple of notices in small print by the customer service desk and that is it, it should be up in large print as you go into the store and on the shelf where it normally is stocked.

to be fair, most of this stuff is in the papers anyhow. if it was particularly serious it generally gets on the news too.

I dont buy newspapers though, and alot of people I know dont, besides which if they have sold something that is recalled it should be their duty to tell me not mine to go looking. I get several of these emails per week, only the really big ones end up on the news, like the cadburys last year.

and how do you propose that they get in touch with you exactly?

perhaps you'd like to register every single grocery item that you buy just in case something bad happens.

this is the real world i'm afraid, start buying newspapers.

No I just want a notice prominently displayed at the store entrance where I can check whether I have bought an item thats recalled. Or a notice where the item is stocked. NOthing huge just so that when I am shoppping I can see that something is recalled. Other shops can manage it why not Asda and Tesco?

As for registering what I buy, if I shop online or in Tesco its already registered via clubcard. I think its unrealistic to ask for email notice, but not for a notice clearly displayed.
