If that's all you use if for then i'd save your money and keep the one you have.

That spec is fine for all you want to do with it.

I guess it is a couple of years old now so possibly time to back up your data and rebuild it.

Spec is fine for what you want to use it for.... how about whacking a different operating system on it for a bit of a change?

Linux is great, and a distribution such as Ubuntu is perfect for people new to Linux.... and of course the best thing about linux is its FREE!

As said has been said,The pc is more than adequate for what you need!

How about changing the case if you want something to look different?

i downloaded that last week. i have yet to try it. i guess with all the dual cores, 64bit etc etc i feel like something new.

If your going for dual core i'd recommend Intel core 2 duo E4300 or E6600

Stick with what you have, you would be throwing money away on upgrading or buying a new system, unless you want a gaming rigg.
Just giviving it a clean up of junk files and defraging the hard drive may help its performance if it is a bit laggy.
Save your money and buy a new gadget

Theres no point at all in replacing this computer, it would just be a waste of cash.

The CPU is still damn good, i have it and it will eat most things up easily. Bit rubbish for multi-tasking with heavy load applications but if just running one its a dream even with a couple low load apps going.
The RAM could do with an upgrade, get 2Gb (2 x 1Gb) as i noticed a large difference when i did this.
The GPU is ample for what you use it for.
And if you need space, 500Gb hard drives go for £70ish.

i loeat this, but what annoyed me was the price of ram, i keep thinking i be as well as buy a new pc!

    Here's another question. Whats better for 2Gb ram, 4x512mb or 2x1gb ?

2x1gb i thought, as long as its the same brand, dual channel.

Damn i didnt realise it was still so expensive.
Check out ebuyer, 2 x 1Gb is best.
    ebuyer.com/UK/…2GB

I got the Corsair 2Gb CL2 PC3200 easily a year and a half ago and it was £150-160 and its still at the £130 mark.

Corsair CL3 are £90 so can get them or a pair of the £80 sets.

Theres no point selling and buying new, as anything with less than a Core 2 E6600 is absolutely pointless and you wont notice a difference.
A store bought PC with an E6600 will be hard to find or expensive, and is only worth upgrading to if you know how to build it yourself as it will most likely cost half.

£80 for new RAM, or £800 for a new system that beats it.
To be honest you wont get much if you sell this PC, its a good base but wont get much back leaving the bulk of the new PC cost coming out of your wallet, and with minimal improvements imo.

hmm. i can't justify spending almost £100 on Ram. the girlfriend would never understand. My pc is dual channel, so i thought that would mean 4x512 would work best. i already know where i can get my hands on 2x512.

Well theres some on Ebuyer for £80 inc delivery.
    2 x 1Gb PC3200 (400mhz)

If you want 2 x 512 to go with what you have, its about £40 so its not really saving much.
Also, what RAM is it you can get your hands on, for ex. PC3200
If its from an old PC, it is likely it is slower RAM (ex PC2700 or lower) and different speeds cant be used together or they all run at the lowest speed.
    1Gb stick of PC2700 + 1Gb stick of PC3200 = Both run at PC2700

Dual Channel only works with 2 channels.
ie you have 4 channels on your motherboard, which you can fit 4 sticks of RAM into, but Dual Channel only works with two of them.
This is why it is better to run only 2 sticks of larger RAM.
You will have 2 sticks of 1Gb RAM running Dual Channel.
    OR
You will have 2 sticks of 512Mb RAM running dual channel, and 2 sticks running in the other bank. Only the first 1Gb will run in Dual channel.

And personally i would find it easier to explain an £80 upgrade, than an unneccessary £800 replacement ;-)

i done a little research and found there is no speed difference between 2x1gb and 4x512mb. also, i have pc3200 so the 2x512 i thought i could use isnt going to be much use. so i will watch ebay, see if i can grab a late night bargain on ram, if not, Ebuyer it is.
