    All you really need to do is get some information on your motherboard, model no etc, then go to the manufactures site check the info on there. More likely it will work, but you may need to upgrade the bios first. Should be available for download on the manufactures site but make sure you have right model details first.

    u can open the case, its usually printed on the board and may also flash up on the screen at boot (near the bottom before windows loads.
    Also check the boards manual as well as soon boards may require more than just bios upgrade
    I had a Abit (terrible company) f190hd(terrible board) which would run a c2d with just the 20pin psu connection but needed a full 24 pin connection with the c2d quad
    be prepared though, some boards just wont take that chip so check carefully and if the board is out of warrenty might be worth not doing

    didnt pick up my mainboard an asrock xfire so don't trust it

    CPU-Z should tell you you're motherboard model and/or Chipset and/or BIOS version.

    Also, if you are going to swap them you'll need some CPU thermal paste and something to clean the old paste off the CPUs/Heatsinks when you swap them.

    what do u recomend to use as thermal paste????

    generally speaking silver based compound is regarded as the best. as for a cleaner, alcohol or petrol does the job.

    yep all good, it will come with instructions aswell if you aren't sure what youre doing, also getting hold of the installtion instructions for the CPU (either paper or download) will help also.

    this is the main board in my computer:

    Chipset Type: Intel P965 Express

    Data Bus Speed: 1066 MHz

    will it be compatible with Q6600 from E6400???

    How will i set up the Bios to make sure it runs efficiently?? It's a Dell 9200 and has Dell's software/ Bios on it??

    Also how can I overclock the processor safetly??

    has any1 tried this method?? it's for E6400, but i would like info for both E6400 and Q6600???

    the cpu should work fine on that chipset, the BIOS probably doesn't give you any options to change (most likely hard set to AUTO).

    I personally would not try and overclock a Dell, purely because compared to normal motherboards with user configurable BIOS, you just won't have access to the required settings.

    inorder to get the most out of quad core shuld i upgrade the ram from 667Mhz to 1066MHz or 800Mhz???

    I need help downgrading from Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.66Ghz to Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13Ghz. I will give my dad the lower spec Philips machine for web browzing, word processing, etc. And the Quad I will put in my dell.

    I have recently purchased the Philips HEPC 7511 from PC World, Product code: 819725.

    * Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600
    * 2.4GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 8MB Cache
    * Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Premium
    * 2GB Memory
    * 400GB Hard Drive
    * Dual Layer DVD Rewriter
    * 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8500 Graphics
    * 6 USB connections.

    I have sucessfully removed the Q6600 C2Q and put into my DELL machine where the bios automatically detects it. Although when I (downgrade) put the E6400 C2D into the Philips machine the system does not boot all the way through to windows. Does any1 know a way to solve this problem please or how I can configure the BIOS.

    Many Thanks

    often removing and reinstalling the cpu helps.

    have a look in the bios and see if you can configure anything, the only thing i can think of is the pc is setup to run the chip as a q6600 (2.4ghz) and the cpu you put itn doesnt like it. the success of getting it to work depends on what you can do in the bios.
