    Upgrading System

hey guys, i need some IT experts to help me out.

Basically i want to upgrade my PC into a gaming PC. i believe my current system can be upgraded. i'll get the spec and post it up.

all i want to do is buy the following things:

    1. Gaming keyboard (has to have a volume button on the keyboard, preferably top right of the keyboard)
    2. Gaming Mouse
    3. Gaming graphics card
    4. HD Monitor

I've got £300 to spend so can any make me any recommendations on what to get?

take it you have a decent soundcard / 5.1 speaker system already then

    Motherboard Model: DQ45CB
    Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66
    4GB RAM
    Available Memory Slots: 2
    Total Memory Slots: 4
    500GB HDD x 2

Currently have a standard graphics and sound card

The Core 2 Quad 2.66 will be OK for lower resolution gaming but ideally needs to be overclocked.

On the basis of the CPU, you shouldn't be looking to spend more than about £100 on a graphics card as the CPU wouldn't be able to keep up. Go for a 768Mb Nvidia 460 for around the £100 mark.

Look at a Microsoft Sidewinder X4 Jeyboard and X3 mouse from Amazon, £29 and £23 respectively.

You need to look at your PSU to see if it will take the graphics card - a minimum 450W is required.

As for monitor, consider this one: hotukdeals.com/dea…793
    at £135.

Maybe 4 years ago but most onboard soundcards are more than good enough for gaming now.

    1. Microsoft Sidewinder X4
    2. Microsoft Habu - Razer Deathadder
    3. ATi 5850 or as LT said, GTX 460
    4. Samsung PVA Panel or Dell E-IPS Panel

Slightly over your budget altogether though. Graphics cards should start dropping in price soon though as newer gen cards are being released currently.

i guess this is not recommended for me then:

yes you could use that provided there is enough space in your case and you would probably need a 550-600w psu,

Would be bothered with sound straight off.

Gaming wise graphics would be my first stop.

I like my Zboard though it's not used for gaming atm.

Pretty decent mouse for a starter.

That's a great card at a great price. If you are updating your PSU to something suitable and your case takes it, why not? I think if you go for that card, your CPU will prove to be a bottleneck but that would depend on how far you overclock.

In terms of PSU, you need to spend £45 - £75 getting a suitable quality PSU. Look at Corsair, Coolermaster or other good brands.

i'm not a very technical person, i do know how to upgrade systems but overlocking never done. seems like a complicated process. anyway are u saying that if i get that particular graphics card then my CPU will always be at the top of its limit? if thats the case then i better look for something not as good.

When playing games, the key component is the graphics card. However, modern graphics cards can be more powerful than even modern CPU's. As a result, instead of the graphic card limiting the frame rate in games,it becomes the CPU. For the sake of an extra £25, if you can afford it, go for it.

Overclocking is no longer a difficult process depending on your motherboard (certain manufacturers such as Dell lock down their motherboards). Usually it is a simple tweak to the BIOS setting.
