URGENT: Fridge/Freezer just broke down and we need a replacement asap for as cheap as possible

Found 8th Feb 2008
Basically the fridge freezer has broken down and we've been told that it's not worth repairing due to the costs, so we've been advised to buy a new replacement.

Can anyone recommend any deals out there for a quite big fridge freezer but I don't even know where to start looking for a cheap fridge and what it should contain.

Any advice would be appreciated and offers would be fantasitc.

I don't know of any deals but you could put a wanted on your local freecycle group always lots going so you have time to buy the right one at the right price then offer back on freecycle.

Is that a secondhand website, as the Mrs only wants brand new stuff?

We're hoping it will be under £200, as finances are very tight at the moment, so this is definitely a very unwelcome expense that wasn't in the budget.
Freecycle is a a group where people in your area offer items for free rather than sending them to a landfill. When our freezer broke down i got one from a freecycler within 2 hours thats lasted me a few weeks until i bought a new one. then i offered it again on freecycle and it was collected that evening.
Also if your on budget, which shop you buy from online or instore, make sure they take away the old appliance as some councils charge for waste removal and specially on fridges cos they the chemicals in them or something. Charges usually £20 ish so good to buy from someone who take old one away, think Currys were doing it ?
Argos and Currys have ones around for £150,its free delivery at Currys over £150 spend and they also take it away free. Argos is £7.50 removal old one plus delivery too.
If you check at Comet too but you should eaisly be able to pick up one for under £200.
Hiya! Depends where you are. We have a really great local firm who more-or-less match anything on-line but are the trad, family firm in terms of delivery/installation/any probs years later fixed, very reasonably. So,we sometimes get white goods on-line ( more or less everything gave up the ghost last year after 8 - 20 years) but tend to tootle in to them for most things. Is there anywhere like that near you?We got a samsung fridge freezer, before Christmas, but have a look on the on-line sites like empire direct etc etc to see what takes your fancy. If I had had the space I would have gone for an American style! Deals seem to change very rapidly. Might even be worth having a look at Comet auctions but not if you're in rush. I think that you get what you pay for in fridge-freezers up to a limit - not miele!! xxx
