Urgent - laptop help sought

Also posted under miscellaneous but has an element of a Deal Request too as the alternative to buying the second hand laptop referred to is that there might just be a bargain (brand new or more likely a refurb) within the £300 to £330 bracket that meets daughter's one essential requirement of being able to play Sims3.

Originally posted about purchasing a refurb (new) laptop for my daughter with limited budget (its my daughter's £300 National Savings money) with the one proviso that it would cope with Sims 3.

I now have the opportunity to buy a second hand laptop from someone at work who is an IT geek and buys, rebuilds, upgrades and sells stuff all the time.

It's an older model Compaq NC6000 Business Notebook but with an upgraded hard drive, 2 gb RAM and various extras thrown in (spare battery, case, docking station) and with Windows XP professional plus genuine XP key. It has a 14.1" screen, an older processor (Pentium M) but a dedicated graphics card ATI mobility Radeon 9600

He's checked the spec against the SIMS3 system requirement and is happy that this will meet the bill.

He's asking £200 to include all the upgrades and extras. It's described as in immaculate condition with no scratches and no dead pixels.

Is it worth going for this considering it's an older machine and has an older processor and a small(er) screen compared with current laptops but bearing in mind that to get something new with the right spec, particularly decent dedicated graphics is probably going to cost nearer £400 to £500?

I have that lappie just with 1gb though, it would play sims 3 but as above its a bit over the top spend you're money elsewhere if i were you.
