US financial newspaper Investor's Business Daily has said:- "if Stephen Hawking were British, he would be dead"...

Found 13th Aug 2009
"The controlling of medical costs in countries such as Britain through rationing, and the health consequences thereof, are legendary," reads a recent editorial from the paper. "The stories of people dying on a waiting list or being denied altogether read like a horror script...

"People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn't have a chance in the UK, where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless."

Never let a little thing like facts spoil your argument!

But I do think Prof Hawking is partly to blame for having a voice on his little machine that sounds like some american 'toaster'.

i wonder if the windows shut down noise will play when he does die?

Yet again stupidity from the Americans:x I do think that the Health Service has problems but most of the time you have to say they do a fantastic job and no I don't work for the NHS

They really really do not like nationalised services, do they.

America seems to deem anything which removes choice (where the NHS won't give you the pricier option due to cost which is rare) as something grotesquely evil. Bear in mind they had a severe anti communist culture for decades and that their entire culture revolves around the worship of money, materialism and commercialism.

So while Europe has 80-100% subsidised healthcare on broadly based nationally individual socialist welfare healthcare which means along side the Far East we rank among the top10 nations in terms of HealthCare, USA iirc, is 37th.

The richest nation on this planet has 50million people without healthcare insurance and is ranked 37th!!!

Make of that what you will.

It must be terrible to be an american if you get sick for any reason. Imagine getting hit by a car in the US with no health insurance and compare it to the UK. Scary.

Imagine if you had to ask the question above^^^
