Is this for a laptop or a pc?

The USB dongle things tend to have quite an inferior aerial..

It's for a PC

I've got one of the Belkin 802.11g USB adaptors. It works surprisingly well, although I'll warn you, there's (at least) two different versions of it. They have the same exterior casing, but inside, they use different wireless chipsets, one of which is painfully unreliable, although the other is fine.

I found this out myself when I bought one from Currys a few weeks ago. I took it back to the flat and tried to 'borrow' my neighbour's wireless, and it struggled to reliably even pick up the signal. So, I returned that one, popped next door to Comet, bought another one from there on the off-chance that it might be better, and it was. Worked perfectly, in fact. Although this neatly shows how hit-and-miss wireless adaptors can be. Finding one that actually works can be a nightmare.

Wired is the best way to go.
