A few months ago I bought one of these and have only just got it out of the box:
dealextreme.com/det…474

to run one of these on my laptop:
play.com/PC/…JNL

but it won't detect in 'my computer' and i've tried all the different jumper settings.

There is enough power to the DVD-RW drive as i can open and close the tray.

Can anyone help?

Have you tried other USB ports?

Can you try another computer?

Which version of Windows are you using? XP? Vista?

Are you familiar with Computer Management/Device Manager?

Do you have the power connector in for the USB/SATA box??

Sorry for all the Q's it's just it will help trying to troubleshoot :-D

Thanks for reply.

No other computer
XP Pro
No yellow exclamation marks in device manager but the device is showing in 'Disk Drives' as 'USB to IDE/SATA Device'.
The USB to IDE/SATA is powered by english mains lead as recommended on DX site.
