USB Flash Memory Pens VS USB Portable 160GB Hard Drive 2.5 Sata - Why Wont It Work On A DVD Player With Usb?

    Hiya,
Bit of a tech question for you...I have a dvd player that has a USB port on the front, It will play divx & mp3 from the USB flash memory pens but when i try to plug in the portable 2.5 sata hard drive enclosure it wont reconise it ?

I formated it to fat32 so it would be in the same format as a USB pen ...I would have thought it possible to connect up a hard drive in this way....Any ideas anybody?

I thought i would ask before purchasing one of the docking devices seen here on HUKD.

Your DVD player probably only supports flash devices or the dvd player may not provide enough power from its usb port for the hard drive.

probably only supports small sizes (e.g up to 8gb)

Both the above are the 2 logical reasons (assuming the HD is definately working)... but if I had to gamble, my money would be on lack of power. Luckily there are cables that split this so extra power can be drawn from the mains (or any other source)

When you plug the hard drive in have a listen to it and if it is not making any sound ( spinning) or is making an intermittent sound then it isnt getting enough power from the Dvd player,

Probably only supports FAT16/32 so if the drives are NTFS which if they are large drives they will be NTFS the player wont see them. Check in a pc in disk management to confirm and there is no way to convert NTFS to FAT.

I formated the drive to FAT32 and the drive had power to it because the red led power light was on and i could hear it spinning, I'd love to hear of anybody that can get this idea to work on thier USB input on thier dvd player.... Just think!.....The possibiltys of anything up to a 2 TB hard drive showing up on your dvd menu.
