USB to VGA 15 Pin Female

Found 10th Jul 2014
Hello

My VGA 15 Pin female port has stopped working. I cannot get a proper monitor screen colour, only a green colour. Before i go on, i have tried it with other laptops the monitor works fine.

I have been trying to find a USB to VGA 15 Pin Female cable but only found HDMI to VGA 15 Pin Female cable . Can anyone advise how to put together what i need in the way of a selection of connectors, adapters?

Thanks

So you have a desktop/laptop which can only output video by VGA, so you have no HDMI, DVI, displayport etc? A usb to VGA cable will do you absolutely no good because your computer can not display video through usb just because you really want it to and a HDMI to vga cable will probably not work with anything because that HDMI takes digital and VGA is analog, so you would need some kind of converter in their some where.

If you have a desktop I would advise you just buy a video/graphics card and use that, if you have a laptop you might be slightly stuck.

As above.

However, have a look at the pins and the cable to see if there is damage.

Yeah, you need an adapter/converter, not just a cable, something like this

VGA is analogue, just like scart, component and composite.

I'd check the pins first, does your computer have any other outputs for video? if you're not sure can you post a photo?

If you are going to spend £40 on just an adapter you are better off spending a little more for something like this port replicator so you only have to plug in one USB cable and your Keyboard, mouse, ethernet and Display are all taken care of although this one requires DVI not VGA so check your monitor has a DVI port, otherwise find a port replicator with VGA. This one does both VGA and DVI.

That item was just an example, not an example of price. If you are recommending a £60 item to do the same job I would call that a poor recommendation because the topic starters computer is probably not worth more than £60 if it only has vga out.

Just my opinion, it is nice having a port replicator with a laptop so you can just unplug one USB and go rather than unplugging Monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, ethernet, printer etc.
