I've just bought a new laptop and need to transfer everything from my old laptop.

Grab Easus Todo PC Trans Pro from here videoconverterfactory.com/chr…as/
Install on source and destination PC
Network together - if you have a router just put them both on it, otherwise you need a network crossover cable.

There are USB to USB transfer cables, they have an active lump in the middle, some seem to use special software, others may appear as a network connection - but I'd use that Giveaway software and a network

agree. you can also use external drive.

agree, through the router or RJ45 crossover cable.

Transfer via network, so much faster, I tried Bluetooth once, never again

A USB transfer cable isnt cheap (or they werent the last time I bought one); if you havent got a home network set up, the easiest way is to use a flash drive, SD card or USB thumb drive. It really depends on how much data you need to transfer.

A 128GB SD card is about the same price as the USB transfer cable I bought 10 years ago.

Router??? Do you mean putting it on the same WiFi??? Yep, I'm not that technical.

Nitroshare is a pretty neat cross-platform open-source file transfer utility that avoids using any cables - assuming of course both devices are on the same wifi network. Just downlaod and install the right version for your devices here.

In that case, as mentioned, copy your data to a USB drive (I usually just copy the whole of the user folder which contains docs, pictures, music, videos and favourites, but you might have data saved in other locations too).

I think the easiest way is to use external hard drive. Do you have one?
Do you know how many data you want to transfer?
Do you have both Laptops connected to the Internet?

The Easus Todo PC Trans offers several ways to transfer - and yes , same Wifi is "on the router" - in that mode, one copy of PC Trans is the sender, the other the receiver and the data is sent directly across.
Alternatively, it can use a USB drive.

NB. The initial search stage of PC Trans can be quite time consuming, as it locates things that can be transferred - including software!
