If you own a Fire Stick, it's possible to use it as a multimedia device to play video files from a USB flash drive or external drive.

First you'll need to buy one of these which are currently priced at £5.99 on Amazon - CentBest Micro USB Splitter Cable amazon.co.uk/dp/…YR/

Then -

1) Remove your Firestick from the TV and power source from socket/TV.
2) Remove the power source cable from the First Stick
3) Insert the male connector of the Splitter Cable into the power source connector inlet on the Fire Stick
4) Insert the power source connector into the female inlet of the Splitter Cable.
5) Now place a USB flash drive with video files on into the USB inlet of the Splitter Cable.
6) Plug the Fire Stick back into the TV and power it up.

The setup should look like this once the Splitter Cable/Flash Card has been attached.

Once the Fire Stick software has loaded on your TV, download VLC and you'll be able to play the video files that are on the flash drive.

It's also possible to play the video files without an Internet connection, as long as you already have VLC installed and the TV has a HDMI connection, plus a USB connection if you're using this as a power source.

Goto - Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > VLC > Launch application

Also, within VLC if the videos are juddering or video and sound are out of sync, then try disabling Hardware Acceleration.

Goto - Others > Settings > Video - Hardware Acceleration > Select the Disabled option > Back up to VLC menu page

Hopefully this will be helpful to some people.

Disclaimer: If this blows up your TV or bricks your Fire Stick, then soz - but hopefully it won't

Seems a kinda lame implementation for the current Direstick compared to the hardcore option for earlier model as below:

That looks a bit like the set up for my Google Chrome - which I've never watched anything on
