    Used Car 5k Budget

Hi guys what would be the better option for me reliability cost to maintain sell on value.

Mini One or BMW 1 series both used both same price and mileage.years from 2005 -2007

Or should i opt for a seat ibiza little newer but more expensive my another 2k

Maybe look at seat Ibiza or skoda fabia or even vw polo or golf but are more expensive. Wouldn't recommend the bmw or mini as the age there may be problems and if any do occur your looking at a fair by to repair.

Seat ibiza would be my preference as it is cheap to maintain. Have a look at the dealer's website and if you are prepared to travel you can get good deals from the North / Scotland or even NI.

Have you considered the Fiesta? Its the best car in its class. I have had mine over five and a half years done 50k miles in it and the only non standard service thing I have had to do it is change a £16 + £5 fitting cost lower engine mount.

Cheers guys you have helped me alot with this i was going to opt for bmw or mini but after this think i'll look at seat, polo, or fiesta cheers.

Until last week I owned a 118d and a mini one petrol. The BMW has been incredibly reliable over 60k (sold with 90k)I covered, replaced one drive shaft and 1 battery plus normal service items. The Mini, which only covered 13k in the same period had no faults and 1 service which was included under TLC. Have replaced both cars with the same, but newer models. No complaints.

Hi airbus the bmw i looked at was 2005 plate 60k miles
The mini was 2006 60k miles out of the two which do you prefer drive wise and which would be the more reliable do you think.

you don't say the exact models, but I'll make an assumption that both are petrol. The answer really depends a lot on what your use is going to be. If you do big mileage, say over 12k a year, the BMW is the better better bet, I commute 400 miles round trip once a week and it is ideal for this. If you are mostly in town and/or enjoy throwing a car around a few bends in the country, the Mini is a better bet, although I'd go for the longer wheelbase 4 door or the older Clubman estate as they feel less twitchy.
In terms of cost to run, I doubt there will be much between them, both a relatively low insurance group. Service costs depend on you having a good independent BMW or Mini specialist nearby. As an example, my 118 recently needed a rear drive shaft, 800 plus at franchise dealer, 238 at specialist who had recon shafts on the shelf.
If either are diesel, then you will be looking at low or zero road tax and 50 plus to the gallon, petrol cars of the date you are talking about will give mid 30's.
