Used couspon to buy an item, now e-retailer saying transaction invalid

Found 18th May 2009
I bought an item worth over£100 with a coupon on website. Although the coupon was not for the item I bought, I put it in and the coupon worked. So I went through checkout and the money has been taken from my account.

I know in the past people have done the same and had their transaction honored. Is there a a rule around this or did the companies honor the deal at their discretion ?

Thanks in advance

What company was it for and what was it you bought? Do you have goods already?

I think its up to the retailer to decide if they should honor the price.
I would call / mail them to argue your case. You could say that there webiste is somewhat broken and that you wouldnt of bought the item if the copuon didnt work, or somthing.

Thanks. I cant say what I bought or where from at the moment. I havent received the goods. So there is no law around them HAVING to honor the deal ?

no they dont have to honour it, they do have to refund your money, why do people start this crap when they know they've used a code they shouldnt have

Oh ok! No they dont HAVE to honour it...if you havent received the goods and the money only pending coming out of your account then they dont have to honour it. A contract is only concluded when you receive confirmation, that is someone has physically checked your order. Clickwrap situations where it is automated do not usually constitute an acceptance by the company, rather you are offerring to pay the money (albeit with voucher too) and they can choose to accept/reject which they are doing

Why do people have to rant about thing that are not of their concern?

as you are, agree with sassie
if you knowingly try and 'cheat' why whine when you get found out?

I think people need to read before they post.
there is no whining just a simple question.

AFAIK there is no law. Most companies state somewhere in their T+Cs that the contract is complete once goods are dispatched. So they do not have to honour but they do have to refund your money within a week.

Read the original post again (the OP, not mine) - you are as dazed and confused as sassie is.

He asked a simple straight forward question, and did not ask for a couple of meddling ***** to force their opinion on his buying techniques

Thanks to those who have helped. Rep ++

I wont get into details but I am not trying to cheat the system. Just wanted to know where I stand if the code is accepted and order has gone through.

Will just accept money back as they will not honor it out of discretion.

please don't respond to sassie.

She is obsessed and deluded and thinks I have some personal issue with her. I don't - I just happen to disagree with her attitude here, and in some other threads.

Seemingly she too arrogant to accept this, and deludes herself into thinking its something deeper, when it really really isn't.

but that is stipulated in their T+Cs with direct regard to voucher codes. i dont know any other company that does it.

He asked a straightforward question yes but one which implied they wanted to know if they could force the retailer into giving them the lower price even though the coupon went through accidentally.
OP could have accepted the refund silently as they knew they used a 'wrong' code.
Instead they ask 'do i have to accept this?' and by doing so are asking 'is there some rule that says i can force them to take it and cheat them?'.

Also i did not ask for a meddling to force their opinion on my posting techniques on this forum.
The fact that you did exactly what you criticised me for makes you both the whiner and a hypocrite.
Please do not stalk me either.
