Using a 'for outdoors only' bulb indoors

I bought a squirrel cage bulb (one of the old time multiple filament bulbs) recently and on the box I noticed that it said for outdoor use only. I was wondering if it is safe to use indoors? I don't see why not I think its because it has an energy rating of E and possibly its due to some EU regulations for selling them or something but I just wanted to double check if anyone knew anything about this. I've looked on google and not much comes up on the subject. We'll use the light on rare occasions and it's mostly for decorative purposes than anything else but I didn't want to use it if possibly it may cause damage or void insurance etc.

I believe it may be due to the heat generated it may not be suitable for indoor light fittings

I'm almost certain it'll be this too. Some 'bulbs' are actually heat generating lamps.

Just ignore it and ask if it is ok on hukd. If the majority say ok , then it will be ok

I'm almost certain that if they bothered to write "for outdoor use only" on their product, that they mean that it is for outdoor use only.

Petty much this, inside it's going to be near fabrics and light plastics so is going to be a fire risk, those outside light bulbs can get really hot.

There hasn't usually been a fire when you see drug busts on tv, and I am assuming they use these types of lights for indoor ganja plantations. Just a thought.

Thanks for the replies guys, I bought it at the ideal home exhibition in London last November/December and all the bulbs were in lampshades clearly for use indoors rather than outdoors. In reply to the ask HUKD and go against advice yeah pretty much exactly that. But in all seriousness I was just wondering why a bulb would be for outdoors only.
