using custom firmware on psp (slim or fat)

Found 9th Nov 2007
I am in the process of patching my psp to get it on custom firmware (cfw) 3.71 m33-2.

I wanted to know what is the benefit of using cfw ? Im striving to find anything on the net and maybe its just obvious and going straight over me but I would like to know what the specific benefits are of using a patched/homebrew/custom-firmware psp ?

Thanks beforehand

You never need to buy a game again.

If your PSP is the fat one then get 3.40 OE or get 3.52m33 i heard the 3.71 isn't too stable.

If you have the slim then no choice really but the m33 firmware.

Benefit of custom firmware:
1- Backup your original UMDS and store them on memory card so you wont need to carry about 5-6 UMDS with you.
2- Loading from the memory card is much faster.
3- Unlocked capabilities eg can run Homebrew apps like IR Remote (control TV Hifi etc)
4- Change your themes about no more boring sony theme.
Theres more but cant remember all now lol

I think you should get 3.52m33 and then patch with update 4
There is an app that lets you change themes without writing to flash so it is 100% brick free

thanks guys ! Thats helped a lot.

Actually I have a slim and have bought the pandora 3.71 m33-2 battery on ebay (got it at a good price IMO). Do you still think I should go on 3.52 ? If so, will I need to buy a different pandora battery or just update the files on the "magic" memory stick.
