I used a virgin PAYG SIM with my unlocked ZTEdongle, the speed is not very good. Telstra connection manager shows that I am have a UMTS signal. No HSDPA though.

On VM website I noticed this:

Can I put my normal voice SIM in my USB modem?
Yes, but you'll miss out on the special Mobile Broadband data rates your Mobile Broadband SIM gives you.

The SIM I used is my regular PAYG SIM which I use in my phone sometimes. Can't understand what is so special about this special Mobile Broadband data rates the Mobile Broadband SIM gives.

Can anyone advice what would be so special about the "special Mobile Broadband SIM" which will provide the "special Mobile Broadband data rate".

did you find anything out?

and me

I guess the special Mobile Broadband data rates is a pricing thing.

I have ordered a ZTE dongle of three and will unlock it. I want to test a O2 and Virgin PAYG to see what is teh best signal for my Dad before I geta new contract for him.

Do Virgin actually support HSDPA or just normal 3G?
