van left for months outside my house ?

I am wondering if anyone knows if anything can be done about this annoying situation...so, a large van that belongs to someone in the next road is left parked for months at a time outside my house , it is literally moved three times a year or so . Now before anyone says I'm quite aware that I if a car is taxed etc it can park freely BUT this is really unreasonable as we have no drive and parking is extremely limited along my road and I regularly park several roads away. If it was parked and actually used like other cars it would at least be fair to myself and my neighbours so we would have half a chance of parking near our homes . I have small children and parking is just a nightmare and this selfish git has a drive .

Have you checked if it is actually taxed .?

If not report it as abandoned ,/untaxed

Unfortunately there's little that can be done, I don't suppose the van is a commercial vehicle? As you can get those banned from parking in a residential area

Also if you wanted to be petty if the van is parked on the side walk / mounted the curb you can ask them to move it, they have the right to park on any public highway / road but not on a side walk or footpath

No it's taxed as I've checked but was surprised as its a real old can and no foot pedals or steering wheel ? But apparently as its taxed it's all ok . The guy who own's it has room on his road but I expect he knows it would annoy people so he dumps it up my road grghh ......

If I were in this situation, I would see how much the bloke wanted to take it away and let it be a problem for someonelse.
Selfish I know, but if the law lacks common sense, what else can u do?

That's it I know . You'd think if a large van hadn't moved once in 4 months at a time at on the public highway it would be classed as abandoned which is not the case. Parking is bad enough but this really winds me up .

to be on the road it has to be taxed, insured and with a full mot.
Check the mot with a free app like vehicle smart. There is an app somewhere also to see if its insured

Oh thanks I didn't think of that I've only checked that it's taxed . Can you check if it's insured ?

I don't understand how he's managed to get it taxed with no MOT certificate as surely he can't have an MOT certificate if it has no steering wheel or pedals?

    to check insurance.
You have to tick the box to say it is your own vehicle, yeah whatever

Just start "hinting" that it's not safe there.
ie. tyres let down, paint on it, or worse (_;)

Funnily enough he is a mechanic !! So I don't think it's even a genuine mot that is done at all but can't prove a thing !!

Doesn't need to have a full MoT, just a valid MoT on the date it is on the road. Don't need an app to check MoT, just a browser: vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

Report it to the police (101) that looks unfit to be on the road and it's possibly a stolen vehicle.

It will give him a kick up the back side and possibly get it towed with requiring a repair and retest before they will let him have it back.

It may be true but most people have a tiny bit of thought for others . It's just common decency , just because it's not illegal it's still not right or fair on other people .

Look. Unless it runs out of tax or insurance or turns into an unfit vehicle to be on the road or it has been abandoned there is nothing you can do.

So just enjoy your like & put it into the back of your head.

& dont forget, when the tax disc expires it doesnt mean its out of tax because no one needs discs anymore. Its all on line.

report it to council, or knock on the person's door who owns it.
last resort is if you don't know who's it is then send letters out to locals , saying who ever owns it then move it! clamping in force

Let the tyres down until it is moved.

Buy the cheapest ugliest looking van/car, paint it an awful colour and park it outside his.
This might cost you a few hundred though to tax and mot, and then there is the case of trying to get rid of it after he moves his van.

Hammer the window late at night prob solved. Will look like someone tried to steal it use a towel so it doesnt make much noise :D.

We had a car outside our new place for 2 months. I ended up towing it down the road 50ft.

    Ignorant *expletive*

No we have the dropped curb so no more of that to worry about

A taxed vehicle can still be classed as abandoned so its worth reporting it. My local authority has an online reporting page which we used to report a neighbours abandoned car which was straddling two (unmarked) spaces but moved once every few months. Within a week it was clamped and then it mysteriously disappeared.

Post the Reg here & we'll check it for you

Here on my road, a businessman lives with 5+ vehicles, 2 of them are big trucks with crane lift, he park in right in middle of parking area where no one else can park later, usually 3 cars park there, he got 1 caravan/trailer sitting there for last 5 years. I am having problem same problem as op. There are no parking restrictions at all in this area. So annoying.

this sounds like commercial use vehicles. surely something can be done?

Under the cover of darkness, nick it, move it and put a match to it.

Anyone who starts a sentence with Look or Listen..... instantly becomes a whatever answer/response. Just saying....

It could be an expensive solution, but you could drop the kerb and put in a parking spot if your front garden could accommodate one.

Cut handbrake cable and give it a shove

if you cannot do anything about it cant you wait until it moves again and get a friend to park there car there so when he comes back he cant park out side your house

    5 possible sensible solutions;

    - Go speak to the owner and explain the situation asking if they could move the van once in a while if they leave it in situ long term. Even explaining that you're aware some neighbours are unhappy with it being there all the time unmoved and that you're just being a nice person because you don't want some angry git to damage the van.
    - Wait for it to move and then park badly, even team up with neighbours to make it so the space is unavailable for parking back in
    - Speak to the neighbour asking if they could move their van on a specific date so that you can move in/out and that you need the access.
    - Arrange for the kerb to be dropped then he can't park there.
    - Leave an anonymous note on the window saying sorry the van got crashed into when you were parking with no details and that the note has been left because someone saw.

Having your kerb dropped is not a deterrent for anyone parking over it.

It is perfectly legal to park over a dropped kerb that has an empty driveway.

Is this a commercial vehicle with company livery on, he's possibly looking to drive sales if so?

IF this is the case, several anonymous phone calls explaining the problem may just deter him, bad publicity and all..?

Other than speaking to him directly I see no other method of deterring him, legally anyway.

Is it an option to park in front of his property..?

actually mate if the council do it for you last time I priced it was around £500 they lower your curb so you can park on your front no one can block it as it becomes an official entrance but that's only if the council do it . if you do it yourself or get a builder people can still park outside
