Vehicle Ownership Online Transfer @ GOV.UK

Found this useful little tool which can inform the DVLA of change of vehicle ownership online. It auto generates a new V5 log book for the new owner and also cancels and refunds car tax back to you, as well as sending a confirmation letter of the change of ownership to you.

gov.uk/sol…cle

Many may know about this but for the benefit of those that don't I thought it would be useful.

You will need:

Buyer and Sellers details
V5 11 digit number
Car Registration number
Date of sale of the car
Email addresses of both parties for confirmations

Really was very simple to do..

Once confirmed on the website you shred or destroy your V5

Saves at least the cost of a stamp so a deal in my eyes!

Thanks for useful information...
It was launched about 3 years ago. Saves a stamp.
Does it generate the new V5 straight away so that you can then use it to tax the car online?

Yes, this is what a dealer will do if you buy a car from them.
They advised me that the system can be a bit slow updating on the police database so gave me a print out of tax so I could prove I had it in case I was stopped on the journey home.
Isn't the v5 the registered keeper, not owner. The actual owner might be a leasing company for example.
