    Viewing CCTV

Just wondering if anyone knows the law about viewing CCTV. Someone passed all our details to a travel agent saying we were wishing to book a holiday. Travel agent phoned us with prices but we'd never been near the shop. Although shop doesn't have CCTV, shopping mall does and we know the time the enquiry was made so can the mall make the CCTV available to us. We just want to see if we can recognise anyone that may have passed our details. Its not like they tried to book anything or pay for it using one of our cards but someone's gone to the bother of passing all our correct details, including our phone number, so just find it a wee bit suspicious.

And before anyone suggests it was the hubby doing the dirty, we were together at the time the person made the enquiry in the shop - 40 miles away.

If you are ON the CCTV, you can by law request it. However you cannot if you are not featured on it

    Contact the police?

if you are on any cctv you are allowed by law to have those images, so go to the shopping mall with the date and rough time and they have to give the images to you

Police not interested. Although the person used our details, he didn't actually try to buy anything with any of our details. Just a bit concerned about what he's going to do next though. But why give our number as well and not his own........really strange. Bit worried about it too.

have you tried speaking to the shopping center and asking if you can view in their presence.. ie in a secure viewing room so you cant whip the tape

No the lassie was geniunely upset when we told her someone was taking the mick. And she's been really helpful

what a nightmare - could the lady in the shop remember anything about the person that might let you know if its osmeone you knew?

Seems a bit stupid, that anyone could bother with enquiring about a holiday etc...

Also re this cctv business are we sure they have to release the pictures? If this is the case, en masse you could bring down the cctv systems in the uk overnight by everyone requesting their images repeatedly...?

    thats more like it

You are allowed to ask for images taken of yourself but they would have to edit the tape... if someones is trying identity theft then thats the job for the police I would prob try harder with the poilce saying you have had other wierd stuff lately ie home offers with your details asking you to confirm different address's they maybe more interested to help you
