Virgin broadband help

i have a 12 month contract with virgin media for internet only at my partners home but we have since parted and i have 3 months left

ive moved into a relatives house and they have had virgin internet in the past but had a bad experience with them so wont go with them again so i rang up to see if i could get my 3 months transfered there and they said no? i have to sign a new 12 month deal? despite the fact all i need to do is plug my modem and router in no install engineer is required?

so not happy with that i plugged the modem in just out of curiosity and it works? there is no point me signing a new 12 month contract cause this is only a temporary address for me 3/4 months max

so basically

- is there a way of moving my 3 months there or are they are serious about a 12 month deal must be agreed to?

- why is the internet still working despite being disconnected months ago at my relatives address?

If they are using another broadband provider a vanilla modem may work

If they did not sign up to another provider they may still be paying for it, have they checked the direct debit from the bank?
I moved providers and still got direct debited for months from the original one and it still took months of complaining to get the overcharge back

If neither are the case "free broadband" till they spot it!

its a elderly relative of mine and she has deffo cancelled tv and broadband and not signed a new one with anybody else it is also the virgin modem and router am using from my partners but she does still have a phone contract with them

so say i accidently plugged the modem in would this constitute any law breaking or would it be there fault for not turning the signal off?!

It depends on a few things, firstly, presumably you are still paying the bill for the contract that has 3 months left? If so theres no reason for them to switch the modem off.
Secondly how are away are you? If you move to a different UBR then they will most likely switch the modem off as they will think its a clone (well not quite as simple as that but near enough)
If you haven't moved too far away just keep paying and it should work. Unless for some reason they decide to disconnect the cable fro the cab - but thats unlikely.

Thats all assuming its cable BB?

yeah its cable broadband

my relative lives about 5 minutes away from my ex partners

i was planning on paying the last 3 months cause i aint paying a cancellation charge so if i plug my modem and router in my relatives till my VM contract ends im not breaking any law?

Its common with virgin, my mate had broadband with them and had it cancelled
it was still working for 2 years after he cancelled!!!!

you should be fine then, they won't know where you are using the modem (unless they do some tests, which they won't)
