Thats good isn't it that you rang to cancel and it was done quickly?

The box is never yours, its rented from Virgin.

wrong time of the month, should always ring towards the end when they have targets to make and they'll give you the kitchen sink if it means you stay

Did you pay your bills on time?

sometimes retentions ring you back and try and talk you into staying
I telephoned and told them that talk talk was cheaper and they offered me the same deal as talk talk with the broadband going up to 10 mb in August (I think)
Try ringing them again, ask for retentions tell them that you would like to stay but would like a better deal as its getting a bit too much for you - tell them anything they dont know:)

I've heard that nearer the end date (10th July for you) they may well ring you back with offers to stay on, basically you might have a game of 'chicken' now, just don't blink first!

Keep it cancelled. there ****. Go with sky or O2, who actually give a good service!

when we came off virgin last year it took them over 3 months to pick up the box:shock:

ive been with them for years and never had a problem,

looking at the reviews it seems hit and miss depending on the areas you live in.

Virgin is excellent in my opinion, The Catch up tv on Demand and Tv choice on demand is brill. internet is good to!

LOL - I cancelled a couple of hours ago after having been with them for 10 years. No sign of a deal. Might chicken out near the end of the 30 days cancellation period but this throttling is getting really bad now.

Same here. I think they are pretty good and normally any problems we have are resolved quickly.

Its good, but still could be better. The internet is great aswell. But there are signs that they are starting to mess things up by implementing all this traffic shaping nonsense and handing people who do illegal downloads over to the bpi.

Did you ring and say you wanted to cancel or did you ring and say what can you do for me as a loyal customer?

That's what I did and I got £20 off my bill for being a loyal customer.

Then don't do illegal downloads. The only people that are really going to feel the effect of traffic shaping are those that do illegal downloads of large movies and such. I'm in favour of traffic shaping personally.

There is a definite limit to what you can download legally that's going to suck up 20Mb's of bandwidth for hours on end. Although I grant that all those Linux distros I download so often will be coming down a little slower.

I generally have to ring up and say I want to leave every 3 months and have done this for 10 years now. Normally they reduce my bill by 50% (was paying £17.95 for 10mb broadband and free calls & line rental but now going back to £26.95).

£20 isnt great unless of course you are only paying 50% of their advertised prices as well.

stay cancelled and then re-sign through quidco, you will then get the new cheapo deals and £100 cashback

they only give deals / cashback for brand new customers from what I have read. Shame really else I'd go for it.

must admit I've hardly had a problem with virgin (been with them since Diamond Cable days)

I don't know what ppl do to suffer from throttling - speedtest shows between 16 and 18mb no matter when I try it

I do a lot of gaming and the gf downloads music etc but we don't download movies. traffic shaping gets the thumbs up from me

I always have a good deal (2 tel lines, 20mb inet, XL TV and mobile for £63). I always ring Sales not Retentions when I want my overall package reviewed.

that seems a bit expensive, if you call retentions you will get something knocked off that I expect

If sky collected your box, it would be theft! You own the box from day one!

Traffic shaping is a bad idea.

Theres tonnes data's worth of legal content on my 360. If i download a few demos or a hd film then my speed is cut in half.

I disagree online gamers will feel the effect too, with downloading patches, or just playhing which can use a lot of bandwith, or someone who needs to update their pc often it all adds up

playing should use minimal bandwidth otherwise the servers wouldnt be able to cope with lareg multiplayer games. Demos take an awful lot of bandwidth though.

agreed. playing games doesnt take that much bandwidth and demos could be downloaded at other times.
