Virgin Media... Grr!

We've had virgin media for about a year now, we was paying £36 a month for XL TV, M Broadband and L Phone.
Recently we got our latest bill and was shocked to see it was £56 as apparently they have stopped doing this deal now.
They gave us no warning that they was going to do this and we are pretty annoyed.

1st of all are the legally allowed to do this?
2nd whats the best sky deal at the moment at around £30 a month includin BT line rental etc.

Cheers!

this means your contract ran out and you can threaten to leave and they will offer you a better deal worth a try

Already tried this, all they've done is downgraded our deal to £31 a month but only L TV instead of XL.

I'm sure if you phone them you can get them to offer you a better package, you need to ask for customer relations or retentions, one of those two will be able to help, if your getting nowhere ask to speak to someone higher up. If that all fails phone them and tell them your going to cancel as your fuming, tell them as they gave you no notice of increasing the price your going to give them no notice to cancel and wont be paying a cancellation fee.

If you need o go a step further tell them you will leave their equipment outside your front door if they haven't collected it by 6PM and that you intend to rip up the cable coming into your house

Harsh but it usually works

As long as your a good customer they wont cancel your contract, Virgin are fining it hard to keep up with Sky's prices so want to keep all the customers they can

If they do say they are going to cancel you just hang up and speak to someone else

Were you not on a deal which provided a price for a product for the first 12 months?

I dont think so, we read all the small print and there was nothing about 12 months apart from that we could not cancel until after 12 months.

I only say it because it is the current trend to have a special price for 12 months.

For example:
£4.50 a month
For your first 12 months, £9 after that.
When you take a Virgin Phone line
for £11 a month

Is for a broadband package they do.

£49 a month for the first 6 months
£56 a month after that.

Is for their large package that they do. (XL, XL, XL)

So was just wondering if you signed up for similar but simply forgot?

Just ring up. I did last week and now pay £15.50 a month for Medium BB, telephone line rental and Talk unlimited.

I called up about the awful year I've had with Virgin Media the other day... They offered to keep my price the same (£15.50/month for 2mb bb and standard phoneline) - well £16.50 but £1 off if I just use e-billing.

I told her about how I had no compensation over the weeks of time I've not been able to use the service I've paid for and their completly bodged installation, useless staff, etc. and she said if I email complaints via their site I might be able to get something more back.

I want 10Mb bb for the same price I'm currently paying, that's my aim.

Good luck, just stand your ground and tell them Be is now in your area, o2 has offered you £7.50 broadband, Sky is offering a better deal on TV, etc.

Post back the results!

No way, what did you say to get that lot? Call in a bomb scare?

Be careful when negotiating though, Virgin are well known for aggreing to drop the price one month, then it suddenly pops back up the next month, as the OP has found out. You have to check your bills every month, because they are very sneaky

But I have 2mb broadband (i.e. the slowest) and the most basic phoneline (not talk unlimited). How long ago did they give you your deal? What did you say at the time? I may need to call them again this afternoon.
