im interested in the box V Box

When I rung to set up my account, supposedly they do not supply the standard boxes anymore as the HD ones work via Scart and HD lead.

It may be just the usual rubbish they spurt to customers however.

Yeah I have that. It's alot nicer on the eye than standard that's for sure. But I stick by my point that supposedly they have 'discontinued' the standard grey box.

you get a certain few HD channels free mate,so you will get some (bbc,itv,c4 and five i think) if you have xl tv,you also get about 8 or 9 more.

the HD box is very good.i rang up vigin last month as i still had the telewest box!.it was playing up and i couldn't get the HD stuff i had in my package. the first lady i spoke to was very inhelpfull, and wouldn't budge on the £49 price.so i rung retentions and spoke to some bloke in newcastle.he was very helpful. told him im paying for channels i cant access, and i want a new box as im a lomg standing customer...after a bit of moaning on my part and the threat of canceling all my package there and then,he gave me a "deal" of the HD box for £25 (half price effectivly). i took it with self install.it came the next day!.
the box is very good.new samsung box, built in hard drive to record 2 programmes whilst watching a third (if im not mistaken). it does upscale, but its only as good as the programme they show (eg: only fools series 1 wont look great as the original print is poor compared to todays standards).

give retentions a ring, see what you can blag out of em.
its worth it for the record feature, but only if you have the channels.if you have basic tv probablly not worth it tbh.

depends on its spec?
i had the top of the range panasonic and i didnt notice any difference betwen standard and hd virgin, then i got the last in the line top of the range pioneer and i noticed a hell of a diff between standard and hd.

It's well worth getting the v + h d, the one that records and pauses programmes. Its made such a difference for me. Can't tell you how nice it is to ff through ads.

lol, they have a big OD service plus less noise, due to no hard drive

Yeah but the od service is slow and clunky and I can't hear the hard drive most of the time over the noise of my pc and tele.

just to let you know i got the v+ box for free (had to pay the £35 installation fee though) when i told them i was joining sky as they had offered me a free hd box and were going to be cheaper as well.

hope this helps and good luck.

Theres only 2 new boxes now, the new small V HD box and the Samsung V+ HD box. If you get something else its a refurb or old stock.
