virgin media wireless question

a friend of mine has virgin wireless broadband. I've never seen her setup or any virgin media setup. She has it all working on her main pc. A cable modem and wireless router. However she just bought a netbook and can't connect to it cuz she doesn't know her security key. What i'm asking is do virgin provide you with your securty key, like sky broadband etc. Or do you pick it yourself during the initial setup? cheers.

aye there is mate but it says the password is password, lol

she's tried that and it doesn't work. I thought a security key had to be at least 10 digits anyway

surely she wouldn't need to run the cd on every computer? would she?

should be on the router unless she changed it.

Log into the router using a computer thats already connected and see what the key is that way.

Seem to remember I created the password using the software that came with the router. Only set it once, you don't need to do so on each connecting computer. I would check if you can change/reset the password using the cd that came with the router.

The sticker will mean the log in password is password not the wep key,If you can find out what model router it is it is pretty easy to set up your own key or find out what the existing key is,

go to this site on the computer that can connect to the internet:
192.168.1.1
The username and password will be the one underneath the router
Change the wireless password in the wireless settings menu that is in the top left to something that is memorable.
Click apply
You will need to login again with the same wireless password you have chosen, unless you are connected via a LAN cable.

apply the default gateway in the MSIE explorer bar, login into the router and check the wireless settings and reset the KEY and SSID to whatever you wish

On Virgin media wireless and set up my own security key

If your mate doesn't know it then reset on the router will need to be done I'm afraid
