Virgin Mobile *finally* getting 4G ?

"After a long wait Virgin Media has finally confirmed that their EE powered Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) platform, Virgin Mobile, will finally be fully upgraded to support the latest 4G (LTE) technology from next month."

They've been promising it for years so could this finally be them delivering?

They don't seem to state a source and nor do Virgin have a press release. What's the chances of there being a "correction" to this story (_;)

yes, good point indeed
Well they have been putting prices up for all those users who have had heavy discounted contracts.
there getting 4G I'm on virgin have been for 2 years and don't even get 3g so here's hoping I might have some luck
I downgraded from unlimited data with them just last week as well

Although, saying that, if this does happen then I can't imagine they'd offer Unlimited 4G though - even GiffGaff's "Unlimited" plan means 6g of 4G data which then drops to 3G speeds if you go over that.
i complained about losing discount yesterday they say 4g coming next week but would not tell me if price going up or not lady i spoke to had no idea

to me, that generally means she's just repeating the standard company policy of the last few years where they've always said that they're getting 4G "soon".

But then, to be fair, I know they didn't know they were stocking the iPhones until a week or two before they actually started stocking them.
Virgin Mobile will be 4G as of the 6th October

in our area giffgaff 4g speeds are lower than virgins 3G, we were getting between 1 and 3Mb with giffgaff woman at work was getting 16Mb with Virgin needless to say we are no longer on giffgaff

I THINK it'll be an added service.

Also the £13 and £23 SIM deals are going to removed and a new £25 tariff with 20GB
worth of data is replacing them.

If i find out anymore info, i'll of course update
I've been with Virgin for about 10 years. And about 5 years ago I got a really good discount for being a loyal customer. I pay £7 a month for a sim only deal which is a rolling contract for unlimited texts and calls and 2GB of data. The last 2 years has been really bad data connection with some days not being able to use my mobile data. And last week sent me out a letter that my contract has finished and I need to start paying £12 a month. I'm fuming
4G is 100% coming on the 6th October. Unfortunately no information has been disclosed to staff about bundles until later this week however we have a definite date

Interesting, I was given that date 2 months ago by someone in the call centre but as nothing existed on google or the VM forums I assumed it was another one of their lies, I wonder how that person found out so far in advance, I presume it would have leaked sooner if everyone knew.
i can't imagine my unlimited everything deal would have just been converted to 4g so probably not the worst thing in the world to downgrade it.

I've had 4G capable phones for a few years now so it'll be nice to finally take advantage but i'm not going to lay through the nose for it - if it's too expensive i'll stick with 3G
i recently got a letter from VM stating I am loosing my discount and can either stay or go elsewhere. I was on an unlimited data plan (with a heavy discount of £18). so maybe they are and want all those on unlimited off.. .shame unlimited data, minutes, for £9 a month with 4G.. bargain...:(
We also recently got a letters from VM stating loss of discount so I've cancelled. it's also prompted me to review all other Virgin Media services.
I called up yesterday to get my PAC to go to the Vodafone 25GB deal. I am currently on unlimited everything with a heavy discount, so I pay £12 a month. The advisor said there would be any fair usage policies on 4G; I queried my unlimited data and she advised whether I had received a letter about tarrif changes; if not I would be OK, but I haven't received anything yet. Now that I've put my cancellation in, I might not receive the letter anyway. Dilemma! I think I will still go with Vodafone, as Virgin can't really promise anything yet.
I'd bet everything I own twice over that Virgin will have some kind of FUP on 4G.
Just an update

I'm sure i read recently that it won't be until january now.
I phoned them today to get my pac codes for my phones and the woman told me they getting 4g in 2 weeks. So I said that I would hold on another 2 weeks. I didn't believe her but she gave me £9 credit to keep me another month. Lets see how it goes.
I HAVE NOTHING BUT PRAISE FOR VIRGIN EVERY TIME I HAVE RANG THEM ,REALLY POLITE,REALLY HELPFUL,AND I WAS TOLD EARLY OCT FOR 4 G AND ALL THE SERVICE PLANS A WILL CHANGE EVENTUALLY,
I have been phoning virgin about 4g as when I signed my new contract in april I was going to go to EE but was promised virgin would have 4g by july. And here we are still waiting. I have even e mailed the COE as I think its disgusting the way we are being treated

I've been asking about 4G on and off for years and i've always been told "it's coming soon". It's a pretty poor customer retention tactic really, especially when they must be aware that people realise how far behind the curve they are with this.

Still, it should be of no consequence in the next few weeks as i'll finally be in a position to ask for my PAC and go somewhere that does have 4G.

You're welcome

I wonder if this means we might finally be getting Sky Atlantic? I've been promised that for about 3 years as well.

interesting. can't say i'm massively impressed with the pricing though.

i'm going to be in a position to switch from next week though, although virgin don't really seem to do any major retention deals any more so i can't imagine they'll offer me anything worthwhile since i'll be leaving to get 4G elsewhere
I got the 12month contract for 4g with BT, £10pm. I'm going to move my daughters contract to Three £9pm tariff unless Virgin improve on the £15pm stated

I've found in the past year or so that Virgin's retention offers have nosedived so I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope. One of their operators told me that they don't even do monthly discounts any more either and that any discount they do offer you is paid as a one-off lump sum of credit to effectively make up the overall price.
Welcome to 2015 guys :-/
Ohh wait, you still don't have 4G oO

Can I ask how you know this? Do you work for them? The lack of info online at the standard places, even just confirm that the rollout suggests otherwise
so calls to 08 numbers are removed?

IThey just gave me 4GB, unlimited calls (08 included) and unlimited texts … IThey just gave me 4GB, unlimited calls (08 included) and unlimited texts for £15.00 but have applied a £5.00 a month credit until 2099, when I recently couldn't get the double data.

Interesting. Maybe with the launch of 4G, they're more flexible on 3G retentions now ?
well it's now official - all the 4G plans are up on their website - gooner was spot on with his information.

the surprise is that they're saying that you can roll over unused data and also that whatsapp usage is free.

yes rollover seems to be a plus point here.
It looks like the prices are the same and not the £2 extra a month as claimed in this thread previously. I'm on the double data deal they did a month or two back. I'd want to keep that before I migrated all ours across.

Looks to be speed capped, taken from here ( store.virginmedia.com/vir…tml )
