Hey everyone

just thought i'd let you know that I got the letter increasing my price by £3 a month. I phoned up, spoke to guy called Stephen and he knocked off the price increase for the next 6 months.

might be worth a try for others. I'll probably have to call again in a few months time but its better than nothing at the moment.

as always, i was polite and just explained that due to the increase i wanted to move down a package. they said im on the lowest package with max discount so they would give me 6 months off.

I told them I was leaving, my increase was almost £5. They put me through to retentions and gave me 12 month's worth of charges in one go.

looks like i'll be doing that in a few months time

The letter just made me re-think my package. Now saving more than half with similar features. Plus £5 off for 6 months and £6 loyalty bonus.

thats the thing, i'll take the free increases but the reality is my house is not a heavy user so even dropping down to 30meg, if it was possible would still have been enough for our needs.

i do wish though that some serious fibre competition would open up in my area. ive been with virgin for years but having some serious competition dont do any harm.

atleast then i can make a threat and mean it

I was on the Big Kahuna, paying nearly £75 a month. Now on the Bing Bang package, lost some TV channels and now on 100Mbps broadband, I don't miss anything

I phoned and got mine reduced by £2 for 6 months then goes up £3 for 12 months. (£5 discount for 6 months) Handed in my notice...

Is that the second time this year?

Cancelled and they called back today. Now getting it for £2 less than I'm paying now £24 credit to make line rental saver at last years price £120 (is currently £144 and will be going up to £16.99 if paid monthly) and a bonus of 6 Months free netflix.

Very useful post, got to say I am tempted to go onto Virgin rather than Netflix/Plusnet/AmazonePrime combo - what do people think of Virgin?

in terms of BB, ive never had a problem and in general terms, when ive spoken to them when ive needed to, they've always managed to sort any issues out. yes, the price rises are a pain in the @rse but again, a couple of phone calls and they do manage to sort something out.

I'm probably among the top payers here at about £130pm (3 x 1tb and top tier everything). Called to cancel and he offered a £1 discount and to waive the increase. I gave my notice and am waiting to see if they call me back.

Result! Just got off the phone (they called me) and he said they could 'repackage' my bundle, leaving everything as it is and I'd only pay £99pm for 12 months, after which it will go up to £121 (still less than I pay now), but I won't be in contract then so will be free to leave or re-negotiate. He said it involves paying £144 for 12 months up front line rental but that they would add a credit to take care of it. So it adds up to about a £400 saving - not to be sniffed at

Oh, and he'd throw in 6 months Netflix

Personally I'm waiting for a official Google Android box.

I really need to ring Virgin tomorrow, my last package I had a £39 discount, so was only paying £29 a month. Had to sign up to a new contract a month ago though as the discount had stopped. Now been told it's going up from £45 to £50 :(. I really wish Sky or someone did decent broadband here. Had been on 60Mb and no one else could give us as fast internet. And thats the only thing we use, not bothered about TV or house phone.

Same here. Other companies need to up their game with BB to really challenge virgins fibre dominance.

At the bottom of the email it says please call to cancel does that mean you have the right to terminate FOC?

£99pm? WTF do you get for that? Free Cinema tickets to all the latest blockbusters included?!

EDIT:

Just looked up the thread and saw what you get, and it does not include free cinema tickets.

£130pm. oO You need to get out more mate!
