    virgin set top box query

    Hi guys

wanted some advice. Ive got a virgin set top box downstairs in the front room but want to connect that box to our tv upstairs without getting a new box. does this mean I will have to feed the wire from downstairs all the way upstairs?

    any other ideas?

You could try a pair of wireless digisenders, but the quality won't be as good as wired.

you could try a signal sender - i didnt have any luck with them though.
i ended up getting another box off virgin.

Depends on what virgin box it is. The older Scientific Atlanta HD box had an RF out... where as the new Samsung boxes dont. The Samsungs do however have a scart out so youd need a scart to rf converter or and exceedingly long scart lead. I ended up using an older video recorder to do the scart/RF conversion as i already had an RF feed to my kitchen in place.

Free or did you have to pay?

did that still involve dragging wires all over the house or did you just get a new connection drillied by virgin with that connection box(where all the wires are attached to in the wall?)

    Thanks

i got a second box which i got for free and had to pay an extra £5 a month for it.
and the installation was free - i was thinking i would get charged to install it but it was free.
what you could do which is what im considering downing is get the second box then leave it while and say you dont want it anymore.
at worst they could hold you to 12 months but thats only £60 over the year and then send it back.
they just upgraded my second box to a HD box too now.
no extra wires just a wire round the back and in through the wall.

so basically you're saying instead of traipsing a wire all the way upstairs, just get a new virgin box?

how does getting a second box and then cancelling help me? if i cancel the second box,and they do not hold me for 12 months, the box wont work anyway, will it??

no but you can then move your first box upstairs as you have a new connection. with out a wire running through the house. which is what you wanted in the first place?

You could just do what I did and put a F-splitter in the box on the outside wall and just run some cable up the outside of the house to the room you want. Then just move the box where you like. Mine is cables up to 4 rooms.

    GOT IT!!!!

Thanks alot mate for persevering with my posts :-D

so if i have a second line fitted with a new box,and then virgin allow me to cancel the second box, the second line itself will work if I attach my original box from downstairs on it?? I thought if I cancelled the second box,the line itself would be cut off too..

will phone up virgin!!! hopefully, they will come round and fit a new line for free.

yes should be able too, and if you got broadband you should be able to run your tv or bb through any of the conections or both if you get a splitter.
